    Hi,

Downloaded a torrent video with the file heading hdtv.tcm.avi . Tried to open the watch the file with various video players and installed numerous codecs including K-lite Mega pack, Ace Codec pack, XVID codec, etc. but to no avail. Even tried using GSpot and AVIcodec but they were unable to read it. I don't think these are really avi files but are perplexed to what they really are and what codecs/software are needed to view them. Thanks in advance for any input.

Did your torrent complete? If so then if it really was an avi, GSpot would recognise it as such. Means 1 of two things; it has the wrong extension or it is just fake.

Always best to identify what something is, then install just what is required rather than installing random crap and hoping it will work.

    Try playing it with mplayer.

Y'kno, that sounds like a digital decoder rip, as such i'd guess if its not got an AVI four CC code (having been recoded for download) then its very likley to be in its original MPEG stream format
