    When I use a Maxell DVD+RW disk for either a data or DVD recording made on my PC, I am no longer able to record or even format that same disk on my Sony stand alone DVD recorder. However, brand new and unused Maxell DVD+RW disks work fine on the Sony stand alone recorder. Any suggestions?

    How many times have the RW disc been over written?? I am finding that many RW dvds don't seem to last very long anymore. One of my Sony discs lasted 5 rewrites. My first disc out of a pack of Imation lasted about 10 rewrites and did the same thing. The Imation discs have a lifetime warranty. I e-mailed them with the product codes and they sent out a new disc. I don't know what the exact problem is but the RW dvds just don't seem to hold up well anymore.

    @Rickil hi :)
    on the 4 occasions i've had this same problem i found that the only way around it was to erase the disc on my computer (in my case by useing DVDDecryter or Cyberlink power to go 3 or Nero if fitted)
    then reformat on my stand alone recorder

    In my case, 5 different programs would not erase or format the RW disc.
    Believe me I sure tried. The discs were defective.

    I still am having the problem. I am using more than one disk, some of the disks have only been used once, some several times. Several different brands too (Maxell, Philips, Etc.). I've tried a full erase with Nero 6, Sonic, DVD decrypter and ULead. I contacted Sony about the problem and they said it may be software issue. So I tried using my Sony laptop with the Sony installed software - the disks are still not usable on the Sonay standalone DVD recorder (RDR-GX300). Any help???

    I just tried using Roxio 6 to erase the DVD+RW and it still has not resolved the problem. So far I have used Sonic, Nero, DVD Decrypt, Ulead and Roxio to erase the disks and still the Sony standalone DVD recorder will not format or erase the disks. I think there is something wrong with the recorder.

    Im not having a problem with them. But the answer maybe is that the ones you listed...sony....tdk....are all made by cmc mags.

    Every cmc mag I have used with three different comps and three different burners all have defects in the picture after burned such as green blobbs, but they play on the comp fine before burned.

    So I think the key is to buy better quality. The odd thing is the phillips and tdk I have rewriiten many times without a problem, but then again I have shitty pictures.

    hello all,

    im having a similar problem, when i try to erase the maxell dvd+rw using any erase tool (but in my case on on my pc), windows keeps telling me that the dvd+rw needs to be formatted thats after i've just formatted the disc using nero (but the elapse time keeps going over and doesnt stop so i have to end it using the task manager) and DVDInfoPro and just now used a s/w called 'Super blank' and it nothing is doing the trick, how can i erase the dvd+rw??

    Thanks in advance for any reples....
