Hi, I'm new to the forums here at afterdawn.I hope become an active and helpful member. Anyway I was recently "attempting" to install my qoob chip and I did something dang stupid. I soldered everything on alright I suppose but I was pulling the lid switch out so I could rout it through the qoob. It would not come out it seemed so I got some needle nose pliers and pulled on the end but they slip off and snapped the wire so close to the plug that it is nearly impossible to solder back together. Hehe, but I attempted to solder it back together, unsoldered all the qoob wires and turned on the cube' and I got the menu screen to come on. But the lid switch is busted it appears. So I guess the question is, do u know what kind of wire connector thingy I need to replace the lid switch one (if possible). Thanks for reading this whole thing.
I think you're going to need some sort of tool to reattach it. Someone did something similar a while back where they tore a wire out of the Qoob Pro's wiring harness plug, but I don't think they ever got it fixed. You might be stuck in a similar situation. What might be easier is to find a busted GameCube and use it for spare parts.
Ok, I just didn't know if that particular part was generic so I could find it at a radioshack. But i'm considering ordering just a new motherboard for $30 as one option or a busted 'cube. Thanks for the advice.
I don't remember if the lid switch wire comes off the motherboard or not, but for some reason I'm leaning towards it being attached to the laser module. You might want to double check that before you order a new motherboard, but considering how much a board would cost in comparison to a busted GameCube, you're probably better off just getting the busted GameCube based on price.
Yep, it's connected to the laser. Could I have heat damage and still have the fan spin and LED turn on? Thanks
It's unlikely that you have heat damage since everything seems to be working normal. The lid switch seems to be your only problem.
Well, the thing that makes me think it's heat damage is the fact that It all works except I get no picture onscreen. I wouldn't know though. Just wanted to throw that out.
You mentioned in your first post at the very end that you had gotten the GameCube menu to show up on screen, so I figured the only thing damaged was the lid switch. If you aren't getting anything onscreen anymore, there could be a few reasons why. Heat damage, solder bridges, incorrect install points, etc. It's really hard to pinpoint a specific cause without having anything to look at. If there's really that many things wrong with it though, I still recommend getting a busted GameCube. Just try and find one that has a good motherboard and laser module circuit board so you can at least fix the stuff wrong with yours.
I think it may be a solder bridge or something. It doesn't look like there is heat damage except right on the 5V point, I've heard it can get burnt up a little but I dunno if that is true. If that is a big problem it may be damaged. But then again it may have come to the menu even after I soldered, I don't remember.
