Haven't found this thread yet, please yell at me for double-posting. I got an UnleashX dash and would like my softmodded Xbox to be running Xebian. (Unless someone thinks Gentoox is better but that's a debate for another time) I got a v 1.0 Xbox and I can FTP just fine. Question is being that I have FTP capability can I write the ISO (or unarch'd files) directly to the Hard Drive [bold]and[/bold] install Xebian and keep UnleashX as the dash? I'm trying but so far can't get it to work.
Unfortunately not or maybe not enough. One of my biggest probs is I got a picky little Thomson drive that won't read alot. So I went out and got a DVD+R disc and went to try to burn the iso to that but now my pc drive won't recognize that. Being that I can FTP ok into the box can I copy the files directly there... The problem with xbox-linux is their Software mod part of their site really hasn't done much updating in the past year plus they won't touch Evox or UnleashX because of what they see as a possible illegal intrusion of copyright with Unix and their pirating capabilities. I want Unleash to be a cool desktop plus use X-MAME... and I want Linux. Getting it to install under Unleash using FTP (preferably) is the hardest part.. if anyone can help there that would be great.
Well gentoo is a much easier install, that's for sure. But if you want linux just for browsing around...there's always damn small linux. It's only about 40-50MB and can be installed on you xbox just by ftping the files over. And you can set it up to have a share folder. I will say one thing, gentoo is a ram hog! Your machine will bog down alot and most likely freeze from time to time.
