    Are you sure that this phone was purchased from Cingular?
    Looks like a Canadian phone.

    well, when i bought this phone it was Cellular One which later got merged with Cingular.

    Well, that is important.
    I think it would be useful to know what part of the Country the Phone was first registered.
    Not as simple as it might be.

    If you are in the US, try it with a new SIM.
    It should work on 850/1900/1800 Mhz.

    I am in India as of now and nothin seems workin so far :(

    I think most Networks in India use 900 Mhz.
    I think this phone is on 850/1900/1800 Mhz.
    You will have to ask in your area if 1800Mhz is available.
    Some are 1800Mhz
    Airtel / Bharti Telenet
    Airtel Mumbai
    Bharti Airtel
    CellOne

    ye I tried to use it with Airtel (Bharti Telecom) & Cellone(BSNL), in both the cases it said SIM CARD REGISTRATION FAILED

    You must "activate the SIM" with the Network.
    Call them.
