    help!
i got my phone off ebay, and it was supposed to be unlocked, yet when i placed my sim card in, i keep getting messages like "SIM card registration failed" .. and my phone shuts off automatically!

i'm not sure what it's locked to, but I'm in canada and my carrier is FIDO..
    and IMEI: 359773001896736

    Have you activated the account?
    You must activate the SIM.
    Try a working SIM.

Well, the phone cannot lock itself.
    Try another SIM.
Where did you get the phone?

i know it cant lock itself!
i got my phone off ebay, and the seller lives in Hong Kong.
I'm just confused what to do with this phone, but sometimes it lets me dial and text message, and other times it asks for a registration pin, and then shuts off.
should i just return the phone..
and there is nothing wriong with the sim card because i tried putting my friends sim card in (she's on the same carrier) .. and the same thing happened - where the phone says "SIM REJECTED" and SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY!
i don't know much about phones, so what the hell do i do.. lol

I think I know what the problem is.
The phone is a Tri-band on 900/1800/1900Mhz. (Hong Kong)
In the Canada you use 850 OR 1900Mhz.
Depending on your location, Fido will be using one or the other.
If you are in an area that uses 850, it will not work. It may be trying to roam.
See if this proves me right. Test it in different areas.

hmm you may be right, but i gave my phone up for repair.. i don't really want to be running around my town to look for areas where my gay phone isn't "roaming" so i can message and call people!
hopefully the guy can fix it.. thanks for you help tho :))

i guess not.. because the guy just called me back and said that he can't fix my phone, because the way the software is programmed inside doesn't allow them to unlock the phone .. and to fix that problem would cost more than the phone is worth! so i guess i better return it to the seller, that is if i can :S

    It may be blacklisted.
With the right equipment it should be possible to unlock it.
No way to do it by code now.
