My xbox finally kicked the bucket so I junked the thing but kept the Western Digital HDD. The drive is locked and I want to unlock it so I can use it in my pc. Is there anyway I can unlock this drive without the xbox?

Before I tell you the bad news let me ask a few questions. Was this xbox softmodded and/or do you have the eeprom bin file? Cause if you do then the procedure is easy. If you don't, and you just had a vanilla xbox that died and you want the 8 gig or so HDD as a slave for your pc, no dice as far as I googled.
If you still have the motherboard and want to build an eeprom reader and get the file, then it also is doable.
If you know someone that has a chipped box and they hotswap it and then unlock it with AID or something, that would work I think.

It is a small drive (assuming we are talking about the stock drive) and really not worth the effort.

yeah exactly the case the 8 or 10 gig drive isn't worth all the hassle. I have a good number of them from modding so many xbox's. If you want one i'll send ya one free if u pay shipping. Really the drives aren't that great and u can buy a 300 gig 16mb cache drive for about 100 now.

Right, except that it isn't a NTFS file system or FAT12/16/32 for that matter, it is like xfat or something weird like that.

In response to DLyon4's question, the xbox was first moded using the Xenium Ice mod chip then the chip failed and I softmodded the box using AID 4.5. And yes, I do have the eeprom.bin (I did a backup in evox) file but its on the HDD which is locked so I don't believe that would be of any help right?

BTW: I was just planing on using this drive for a little extra space, since I got it i figured why not use it. But if I'm going to have to go through the hassle of building that eeprom reader then I think Ill pass :( But if anyone knows any other ways to unlock it I'm definitely listening.

If you don't care about the data then just force unlock it with the details from llamma.
