Does anyone know how to take a modded xbox hard drive and make it work in a pc like it was intended to do.
idont know if you can use a xbox HD for your Computer...you can use Xbox HDM to connect and reformat but i dunno about using it for a PC HD and it is only 8 gigs anyways which isnt much...
Actually, it's a 160 gig Seagate that had been modded for the guy I bought it from. I just wanted it for my computer usage as I have the 360 and never play my other system anymore. Hope someone out there can help me.
Sorry about my lack of knowledge in the computer field. I hope that you may be able to outline some general instructions on how to format the drive to ntfs. I have put it into my computer and it shows up in my setup and in windows in the device manager. It dosen't however show up in my computer. It does recognize it while loading and states it is recognized and fine, then a little bit further into the loading it says there is a problem with a primary slave drive. I really hate bothering you with all of this and as stated, my ignorance in computer knowledge and terminology. I just hope you can deal with me long enough to fix my problem. Thanks for helping as much as you have so far.
well if you hook it up as a slave drive you should be able to see it in my computer, right click on it and then go to format and click NTFS.....
When I put it into my system and set the jumper to slave, leaving the original drive as master, all I get is a boot up with a prompt stating that there is a problem with the primary slave drive and to press F1 to resume. I don't know if having the master drive on SATA and trying to link this Ultra ATA into the system matters or not, or if I need another type of cable specificly for the Ultra as apposed to the normal IDE. I belive it is working off an IDE in the xbox, right? Well anyway that being said now you know what I am trying to accomplish. I have attempted to unhook my SATA drive and boot up with the 160 gig and a cd/dvd drive and to set up windows in this drive, just to get it to do something. Upon windows finishing its config. it shows the large partition taken up by everything already on the drive and stated that it cannot access it neither for repair or another partition for an install. I tried both to no avail. I was told that this drive having been modded was locked and I would have to go through a great deal to unlock it, though after reading some of the forums on this site I noticed alot of people talking about hot swapping, which leads to the drive being unlocked for your PC to acknowladge so you can back up your data. I also tried this techinique and got nothing. Now I know there surely a fix to this and I hope you can (with all the info now) lead me in the right direction. I do apologize for not laying all this out prior, but truthfully I didn't know if anyone would even respond to this as on other forum sites some people seemed less than helpful. I have read many of the threads and gotten bits and pieces here and there and learned some, but no one seems to have addressed exactly what I am trying to do. That is probably because everyone is trying to go the other way with there drives. Anyway thanks for the help and hopefully this will be resolved soon.
Good gracious, I stayed up until 3 o'clock this morning trying to put this drive into my system every way I can think of and still nothing. I still see it in my device manager, but not in my computer. Belarc is still showing it to be in my system, yet tells nothing about the size of the drive or space used or left over. I still see it acknowledged during the bootup, it says it has been found, configured and is good. Just to tell me there is a problem with the primary slave hard drive (and to push F1 to resume) right after the IED scan. Does anyone know where I am going wrong here. I am at my whits end here. This is surely some kind of simple fix. I stated before it could be the cable or something, but I am not sure as I am extremely new to computers. I knew absolutely nothing about them until last year when I built this one. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Thanks, could you tell me how to do that. I have tried the hot swap trick, but I can't seem to get it to work. Also I wasn't sure if I was suppose to look for the white microsoft under the xbox while the chip was on or not. My boot sequence is not a standard Dell or Gateway type boot up, so do I pause the boot any time after it starts the ide scan? I don't know what this guy did to this thing before I bought it, because I turned on the chip last night to see what the heck was on the drive and after the evo x / microsoft screen goes away it lists things like multi-media,xbox games, emules and so on. When you select one of them it opens the file and there is nothing in them or if it does have anything it is listed in red and you can't select it. Anyway, thanks for the answer. I actually had just logged on to post a question regarding the possibility that it was still locked as I understand it knows there is a drive hooked up and tells you in the bios (as well as the model #), ide check and device manager, but it isn't accesible in windows. I ruled out the cable and thought that was all that was left. But I deffinately wasn't sure. Anyway if you could let me know how to unlock this drive I will be so thankful....
if you have a chip all you need to do is put in the AID 3.0 or newest out or put config magic on your xbox and unlock the HD...if you even go to the flash bios screen which you should have on one of your banks for your chip you can unlock it from that screen...
where can I aquire the AID 3.0 or newest out or config magic. Also do I just put it on a disc and run it in the xbox. I don't know if I am supposed to run it with the chip on or off. I don't have any dvd or media playback capabilities at all since he deleted everything that was on the partitions. I think I can still select the flash bios, but I am not sure and I can't remember and am not sure if it will do anything. I will try it though if you can tell me about it. I do appreciate you helping me in this matter and wish I wasn't such a bother. I know it is surely frustrating trying to explain this stuff to an ignorant person (when it comes to comps.) as I am. But thanks and I'll wait for your reply.
you should be able to pop the drive in and unlock it with the flash bios screen that would be your best choice since he erased all the partitions on the drive....
So here is the deal. I power up with the chip on the xbox boots, goes past the xbox and microsoft screen. The next screen has the emule games, games, and other apps. I choose system management from this screen. Flash bios is in this file. I choose it and the next screen is blank with a blue bar as if to outline a word that should be there. I am not sure how or if I can do what you were suggesting. I swear if I ever get this thing unlocked, it'll deffinately be a happy day!!!!!
you are still booting to a dashboard which means you can still load a back up i will send you a link so you can download config magic you will have to burn on and run on your xbox..it has the option to unlock your HD....pm me for that link because i cannot put it on the form....
