Hello! I'm new here and so far it looks awesome, and looks like I will be able to bring just about any electronic problem here! Anyways, I was wondering, what excatly does unlocking a phone do? Like whats the purpose of it, what happends and all that. I'm very curious when it comes to cell phones, as well as computers, so when I find something new, I love tying it! I have a old cell phone of mine that I might want to try unlocking, just for the pure heck of it. That is, after I find out what it does and all that. Thanks!
It's really quite simple. When you BUY a phone from a network that wants your business, they sell you a phone that will only work on their Network. If you decide that their service stinks, you have a problem. Your phone will not work on anothe Network. So you need to unlock it. Even if you love their service, should you go to another country where your phone could work, (not all will) you will not be able to get a pay-as-you-go Service. International Roaming is very expensive especially when someone who does not know tou are in Pakistan gives you a call to chat. So you unlock it. That will allow you to use another Service at home or abroad. JG
Unlocking allows you to use a type of phone on an alternative service. Like a T-Mobile phone on Cingular service, as they both use the GSM system. Likewise for Verizon and Sprint as they both use the CDMA system. But unlocking phone will never allow switching from a GSM network to one that uses CDMA.
We can only unlock GSM. You cannot change from CDMA ot TDMA to GSM. Different tech. Play with these: http://www.unlockme.co.uk/faq.html Do some looking around here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
