My xbox started this and was wondering if there is a way to fix without modding it. Tries to boot 3 times and sometimes ask for date/time. Plays sometimes for about 5 min. then freezes again.
By christmas lights I'm assuming it turns om with the Green light, then does one of the following: -Flashing Green/Orange -Flashing Green/Red -Flashing Orange/Red -Solid Red -Solid Orange -Flashing Orange -Flashing Red Different lights sequences represent different problems, so tell us your colors. Do you get an error screen requesting you service your Xbox? Does the dashboard freeze, and for example you mentioned a song playing, but still have music playing in the backround? And what happens when you coldboot the Xbox with a game in? The original Xbox rarely succumbs to the red ring of death like the "advanced" 360, however I saw 2 Xboxs that crashed. One was believed to be beyond repair, and sat in my basement for 3 years. I learned about softmodding, and was able to rebuild the HD to a full factory restore, with the latest 5960 dash. So once we figure out what you specific problem is, you might be able to fix your Xbox. Taking it apart or modding it may be the only option, unless further clarification on your problem reveals otherwise.
Its flashing green/red with or without game in.It will try to boot three times flashing green then after third time it will flash green/red. No error message on screen. If it does play game it will play about 5 min then freeze at that point in game no sound at all when it freezes.
