So this is a first time occurrence for me. I backed up Ed Wood and because I was looking at 50% compression, I decided to use my seldom used Verbatim DL discs. For whatever reason, however, after the process was done, and I stuck it in the DVD player, it does not get read. I go back to the desktop that it was burned on, and just like the stand alone DVD player, it cannot play. I use WinDVD7 to watch DVD's on my desktop. With this disc, however, it freezes the program. So fine, it's either blank, unfinished, or not finalized etc., etc. I go back to Shrink/Decryptor, and the movie is previewed, analyzed, ripped fine. There are no hiccups and I can view the entire movie through these methods. Any explanations/ideas?
God, i hate backing up older movies on high bitrate DVDs.. It's not like the picture on a 1:1 is going to be HD in the first place..
@Mr_Pink 3 suggestions to try if you haven't: Make sure your firmware is up to date on your drive. Keep the burn speed at 2.4x or lower Rip in iso with decrypter and burn the .mds file w/ decrypter.
@ binkie Thanks for the helpful suggestions, unlike the first post. Now that I think about it, the previous DL rips I have were done with Decryptor and NOT through Shrink. All those worked fine. Hmmm... Anyway, yeah, my firmware is up to date, and I don't fudge around when it comes to DL discs (since they cost as much as they do), so I always keep the burn speed low. But to clarify, is there anything I can do with the current disc to make it playable? I mean, why would it be playable through Shrink or Decryptor and nowhere else? Did I just lose a DL disc
If you burner supports booktyping - booktying the disc will make them more compatible. But for the current disc in question - nothing really unless it will play in some other player. Since dl media is newer - players seem to have problems with it. So booktyping will help this. It's also the reason I've only done many a handful - costly coasters!!
Yeah, I have it set to DVD-Rom. I try to have all the bases covered to avoid any coasters. I think since the time I started this (back in Oct '04) I've made about five coasters. Well that sucks!
