Hi, I didn't exactly know if this was the right place to post this, but, I'm just confused on what this may be about. I just connected to my wireless home network, which has WEP Security Encryption. My DSL (Siemens SpeedStream Gigaset router) is what is broadcasting the network, not a separate connected wireless router. As i was about to browse to another PC in the network I noticed something strange: WNR834Bv2. I am aware that this is a Netgear wireless router. anyone know why its showing up in my network? Btw, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate. Thanks for anyone's support.
Its normal to see other networks which are in range and broadcasting the SSID beacon, just ignore it. I always keep my ssid hidden, makes your network more secure and stops cluttering when PCs do a network scan, I see 5 other networks around me, 1 is unsecured, I could use it if I wanted to or even disable it if I was that way inclined.
i am aware of wireless networks showing up that i can connect to, such as Frontier Citywide, and then some other neighbors of course that are secured, but thats not my problem. i did a little research on that netgear router, and it can be set up as a wireless repeater. im not sure if thats why it shows up in my own network, but i wouldnt understand how it could because my network is secure. And yes i can see a NETGEAR wireless network around me, but i see that actual device when i go to my network, where it shows all the devices such as my xbox and other computers that are only in my network. and also, on another note: i have been experiencing problems with the my dsl being able to connect to the isp since that showed up, but mostly at night though. only a few times during the day. ive done quite a bit of googling on that so im not gonna really go into detail about it unless requested.
