I've been having a problem with Nero lately. A friend and I were working on a project together and he was using a Lite-On CD-RW to transfer the data to me. I'm recently trying to format the disc to reuse it. However, I continue to get a Target error. I have already upgraded to Nero 6.6 from 5.0 and have also tried the WNASPI32.DLL download from Nero's site. Here is the NeroHistory.log file: Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 6:35:34 PM Nero Version: 6.6.0.16 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 16b (Nero Express) Recorder: <HP CD-Writer+ 8200a> Version: 1.0f - HA 2 TA 1 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 2 Drive buffer : 4096kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <ELBY DVD-ROM >Version: 1.0 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <ElbyVCD> HA 0 === Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : ELBY DVD-ROM 1.0 ElbyVCD Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6B200P0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : ST340014A atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : E-IDE CD-ROM Max 50X atapi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : HP CD-Writer+ 8200a atapi Port 2 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === ELBY DVD-ROM H: CDRom2 E-IDE CD-ROM Max 50X E: CDRom0 HP CD-Writer+ 8200a F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523764kB) Free physical memory: 363MB (372720kB) Memory in use : 28 Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 20.9.2005 Video CD 9:37:51 AM #1 Text 0 File VCDDoc.cpp, Line 1387 VideoCD document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Compilation type : VCD Menu : Disable Picture in separate folder : TRUE Folder name ICTURES Use CD-I : TRUE CD-I configuration : CONTROLS=ALL CURCOL=YELLOW PSDCURCOL=RED PSDCURSHAPE=ARROW CENTRTRACK=2 AUTOPLAY=AUTO_ON DUALCHAN=DUAL_ON TIMECODE_X=64 TIMECODE_Y=100 LOTID_X=64 LOTID_Y=64 ALBUM=STANDARD Encoding bitrate mode : User defined (kb/s) 9:37:51 AM #2 Phase 82 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Encoding video 9:37:52 AM #3 Text 0 File VCDCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 514 Using Nero Video Converter version 0.00 9:37:52 AM #4 Text 0 File AVIVCDFileItem.cpp, Line 912 Encoding D:\Movies\Comedy\the blue collar comedy tour.avi to C:\DOCUME~1\Cirus\LOCALS~1\Temp\NER31.tmp ScalingType: 0 Video: yes Audio: yes File size: 736184320 bytes Resolution: 480x352 23.976 Hz Frames: 152941 9:37:52 AM #5 Text 0 File AVIVCDFileItem.cpp, Line 925 Playing time: 6378.906667 s Requested rate: 225 KB/s iVideoRate=0 iAudioRate=32 Estimated size: 478418 blocks 10:29:03 AM #6 Text 0 File AVIVCDFileItem.cpp, Line 990 Encoding done 10:30:31 AM #7 Text 0 File VCDFileItem.cpp, Line 437 Actual size: 478441 blocks 10:30:31 AM #8 Text 0 File VCDFileItem.cpp, Line 441 The generated Video file is 0.999985 of the evaluated size 10:30:34 AM #9 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6356 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 2 / XA ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 10:30:35 AM #10 Text 0 File VCDDoc.cpp, Line 2865 VCD options: ----------------------------------------------------- Create standard compliant CD: YES Encoding resolution: NTSC ----------------------------------------------------- 10:30:40 AM #11 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 10:30:41 AM #12 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 10:30:42 AM #13 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 10:30:44 AM #14 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using CD-R/RW media 10:31:52 AM #15 Phase 40 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Aborted by user 10:31:52 AM #16 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 359845 ( 79:59.70) Last address to be written: 479810 (106:39.35) 10:31:52 AM #17 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 10:31:52 AM #18 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: HP CD-Writer+ 8200a Medium not present 10:31:52 AM #19 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= Not enough free discspace. The Lite-On disc says its 4x~12x. Any suggestions?
True, but that was a different file I was trying to compress and fit on a disc. But the problem that I'm having now is formating/erasing a LiteOn CD-RW to re-use it. But the log file doesn't seem to keep track of that error. I've tried Quick erase, Full Format and even the Windows XP version of Erasing the disc. Would it matter what program my friend used to burn the information on the disc to start? LiteOn disc: 4x~12x 80min/700mb
It's definately a re-writeable cd? Wasn't aware that Liteon marketed media.Never seen that name on a disc.
Yup. its marked CD-RW on the disc and the LITEON right above it. I just tried to erase the disc again and the log file hasn't changed by the modified date. Could the problem possible be if he used a differnt program to burn the information?
@circus02 hi i'm a little confused. i take it that the disc in question has nothing to do with the above log? if that is the case have you tried to erase the said disc with DVD Decrypter ?
@cirus02, friend you need to turn the DMA on. That is a typical problem area. I believe one of the guys at AD has a guide in helping to turn it on. MovieDud
@gurnard Son-of-a gun,it can! Thank you for that tip! I find that cd-r/(w) operation is very erratic as regards copying files (xp drag and drop) or erasing. The recording feature seems to be permanently turned off on my machine and so I have to keep turning it on to access the drives, (only with drag and drop). Perhaps the XP feature is at odds with the other burning software? I recently found that 'CloneCd' can erase these discs also, but only for the trial period grrr.
I already tried to erase the cd with the XP progam. I then disabled the setting allow XP to write files to disc and it still gives the error. Also, I have used a different brand of CD-RW and they work fine. I will try with the DMA enabled and I'll look for Decrypter if it doesn't work. I'll let you know how it works. The log file for nero does not keep track of this error. I don't know why. These are the programs I've tried to erase the disc: Nero 5.5, then upgrded to 6.6 = Error XP 'Erase this disc' = Error CloneCD Ver??(find out later)Full = Error Later diabled the 'Write to disc' in XP options and repeated the options.
Well, tenabling the DMA didn't help. But the DVD Decrypter did reveal somethign interesting. After it failed to erase the disc, it displayed an error, noted at the bottom of that error it state "Writer protected". Appearently my friend lock the disc somehow with what ever program he used to burn it.
