i have the chameleon 1.3 in a version 1.1 xbox, phillips drive. had evox dashboard installed, had way to much stuff on my 10 gig hard drive. I decided to format the drive, i figured it would ask what partition to format....but i formatted the whole drive. My xbox restarted and gave me service error 16. I turned all the switches on the modchip off and it boots to the linux bios screen. I put in the disk that i used the first time, and it say's it's booting from disc and it finds the linuxboot.cfg file on the disk, but then does nothing...it won't play original games, boot from my dashboard disc, or let me get passed the cromwell screen...any suggestions? like what switches on the chip should be on or off? what bios version to use? Please help, i don't want to trash this great xbox that I MESSED up!! ;(
By using Slayers to reformat your harddrive, it did nothing to your Chameleon chip. Put the switches back to the way you had them so the Xbox boots up into the error 16 code with the Chameleon chip turned on. Then load the Slayers disc again reinstall the Dash and Apps. You formatted the drive erasing it but didn't reinstall the programs. RustyDog
ok, Rusty Dog, this is for you. I downloaded the slayers installer 2.5 and burned the iso on a CD-RW. The xbox will read it. When i put the switches so it boots to the service error screen, i put in the slayers install disc. It cuts off half of the screen diagonally which turns black. I rebooted and still does it. when i boot to the chemeleon screen where it says linux bios...it says FATX, no MBR, HD locked, and then it checks the disc...i tried it this way with the slayers install disc and it just halts. Is there anything I can do? When i formatted did i possibly delete something I can't reinstall? how do i bypass the linux chameleon BIOS screen and open up the slayer install disc Menu? God, i'm so lost....please help me Rusty Dog!!!
The diagonal screen w/ the error code is because the harddrive is formatted and erased. You can load the Slayers Installer disc from the Linux Bios. You can only run Linux or reflash the bios using a bios disc. If you have an X2 bios on your Chameleon and you can't get the disc to load it is because of the bios. Most X2 bios files completely skip the DVD drive at startup and go straight to the harddrive for the dash files. This was done before the 137gb barrier was broken so people strictly using their Xbox to run Linux could replace the DVD drive with a second hardrive. What you'll need to do is remake your bios cd with the EvoxM7 bios (on any evox bios compatible w/ you Xbox version). Boot to the Linux screen reflash the bios in bank 0. Switch back to boot from Bank 0 on the chip so that you'll be able to load the Evox bios. Put your Slayers disc in the DVD drive and power on the Xbox with the Slayers disc still in there and it should boot from the disc. Then you'll be able to reinstall everything you erased. RustyDog

i got the M7 bios, put in on a cd-rw with a 250 meg dummy foler, then the bin image, burned it iso 9660 format, juliet, mode 1, Disc at once, finalize, 4x speed, and no multisession. i put in it, and it say's could not find linuxboot.cfg..... halting (or something like that)....i wish i could get my xbox dash back ((((((
oh yeah, sometimes when i set the switches a certain way, the eject light will blink 3 times and then go to a black screen? I don't know if that has anything to do with it....do i need to burn the 256k bin or the 1024 bin? i tried both and still won't load, is it maybe write protected? can it be reflashed once it's been flashed?
ok, i finally flashed the modchip with switch 4 on and the rest off. now when i boot it back on i get service error 16 still. what switches should be on or off when i put in slayers disc?
it seems as if it's booting directly to the hard drive and not reading the disc first, it's the same brank CD-RW i flashed the bios with so it's not the disc,...tried it with all banks off, all banks off but 4, all banks off but 1, and everything else practically! it's just one thing after another
You got the chip reflashed with the evoxm7 bios using a disc? If so, boot from Bank 0, all switches off, with the Slayers Installer disc in the DVD drive. Try Powering it on a few times to get it to load while leaving the disc in the XBox. RustyDog
yes i flashed it with M7 bios and it said, flashing, then it shut off. I shut off all switches and it won't boot from the disc no matter what i do. I burned it properly with Nero, i also tried xavier's installer and it won't boot from that either. is my xbox dying slowly?
I'm thinking maybe I have to change some of the settings in one of the menu.ini files from slayers installer and then rebuild the iso? Maybe that's wrong though. I think that maybe my problem is more sophisticated than we think. That, or it's something so simple i'm just plain dumb. But with all switches off, i'm tryin to boot to the auto installer and it just goes staight to the error 16 screen "your xbox requires service. Call customer support"...I'm thinking I had to have deleted something i needed???
I think i may have been burning wrong. I'm using nero to burn image with mode 1, iso 9660, juliet unchecked, 4x speed, finalized, disc at once. When i put the disc in the computer, it reads the disc and shows the contents. Now i know this isn't right...how do i make it so the PC won't read it like that and the contents will come up blank, because that's how it has to be right?
OK, i got it to read the disc and load Xavier's. I used Nero express to burn the image file and it read it...that's weird!! but hey rusty dog, your the man and i appericiate you taking your time to help not just me but everyone on this site. OK---- pLEase HelP!------- I just bought the chameleon LE solderless mod/ installed no prob.. i get red screen that says "Xbox linux Clean bios 2.27 dev.." linuxboot.cfg not found halt.. What files do i have to burn on a cdrw (i got the burning method down.. and do i really have to make it an ISO before i burn it?) do i need the file it asks for linuxboot.cfg?? or is it just looking for the 256k bin file??? .. anyone HELP PLEASEEEEE
you just need the bin file, i suggest the new Evox M7 bios. burn the 256k file onto CD-RW in the iso format and it should flash. make sure your switches are set correctly.
I am having the "loading linuxboot.cfg from CDROM...unable to find it, halting" message on my Xecuter 2.0 lite plus. The bios appears to be Xbox Linux Clean BIOS 1.8, which doesn't appear to be an Xecuter bios, which I thought was odd, because I thought xecuter made their own. When it comes to this screen I can't get any CDs to work, I didn't want to install linux, I just wanted to be able to load evoX off a cd.
