This is the scenario, new card from UPC arrived couple of months ago, put in card etc, but never called the number they ask you to ring. Over the last few days channels on Kryptview started to go, codes weren't updating, so I switched back to UPC box, this has the regular 14-16 channels, except a few (such as RTE2) showed up as "you have not paid for the subscription". Called UPC/NTL and they said 'as you hadn't been using the box, it came up as an 'error' on some Reports and they switched off some channels.

My questions is, because I didn't ring up when I switched the cards, is that why the channels were (eventually) knocked off OR is it because the Kryptview had been plugged in and their technology now can indicate if their box hasn't been used in x number of days?

    I think:
your UPC box just hadnt updated yet, those other channels moved to nagra2/3 the other day and because your upc box wasnt plugged in it didnt update, leave it on over night and it will update
cant see why your kryptview went unless your signal is weak

Thanks for the reply. Does the TV have to be actually switched on, or can it just be left on standby?

Its unusual that UPC could tell your not using it and they just 'switched off' certain channels, sounded like a spoof to me. If that was the case they'd be a lot more on here detailing what I've detailed.

I was thinking of adding a splitter and thus leaving both boxes 'live' or would that just cockup my non-subbed box?

fitting a splitter and running both boxes wont effect your subbed box in the slightest, you should do this so that your subbed box receives its updates and you can enjoy the kryptveiw at the same.

There is very very few analogue only area's(only place I can think of is parts of ashbourne and greystones)
most feeds into houses are digital feeds being used to tune analogue stations

good answer so it should work for shaneh above but it would prob be best if he could check with n*l or provider if he can order the digital pack in his area or ask a mate for a loan of a box and try it himself to be double sure.
oh no! i just said it, to be sure to be sure.lol
