Hello. I recently bought a 46" rear projection Hitachi tv (model 46F510) I hear some stuff about Upconverters and or Upscalers, and I was a wonderin' if any of you folks here had any info or opinions about them. I understand they all would have their limitations, and I get that they would not appeal to a purist...but I'm just trying to improve my experience incrementally without breaking the bank...thus would like to get a device that I could attach my dvd and sat receiver to...just to get some improvement (did I say all that right..??) Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Here is a great up-scaler for the money... http://www.anchorbaytech.com/products/systems/vp30.php In this thread we talk about video scaling... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/444458 Ced
Any thoughts on this... /http://www.startech.com/Product/ItemDetail.aspx?productid=VID2DVIDTV&c=CA Seems to be a good deal cheaper...
It is just a scaler. It doesn't look like it has the power to do a good job with different cadences like movies for example (with a 2:3 cadence). It doesn't make a claim of proper de-interlacing for material at any resolution or frame rate. Seems like the run of the mill scaler found in most DTV sets. To me its an over glorified (and an overly expensive) input switch box. Ced
Ok, thanks. After some more research, I've found this one here. Discontinued, but still available and well recommended, at least from one site. http://www.anchorbaytech.com/product.../iscan_hd+.php Any thoughts...???
Dang...link didn't work...lets try this... http://www.anchorbaytech.com/products/b-stock/systems/iscan_hd+.php
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=444830 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=811139 Your HDTV has DVI so the HD+ should be fine if you can afford it. The newer iScan's have HDMI. I think dblbogey7 mentioned somewhere that he was getting the VP30 or VP50 for his SD sources.
