Jim, i wasn't talking directly to you with that or any part. For the confusion i apologise, so will amend the reply in a sec.
I have always recommended what I have been successful with and will continue to do so. Although, I mention the freeware programs, I find that I get good quality, ease of use and high degree of success. People spend all kinds of money for hardware but try to go cheap on DVD discs and programs. AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2 fullfill all my needs and the cost is minimal. Lifetime upgrades of AnyDVD is like icing on the cake. In this endeavor as others, "you get what you pay for" and if you don't do due diligent research, you get what you deserve. My 2 cents worth.
I'm having one of those problems that just sprang up out of nowhere. Everything worked fine until about a week ago. I use DVD Decrypter to do it's thing and write all the files to my HD. Then I use DVD Shrink to do it's thing and when it gets to the point where Nero is expected to do it's burn thing, I get an error message relating to a "Reallocation Error". DVD Shrink has done it's shrink thing and written the files to the DVD Shrink folder but Nero seems unable to use them to burn a DVD. Any body got a clue !
post your last section of nero log minus the serial number. what drive & media you using / firmware rev.. plus i'm working thru hits from this - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=shrink+Reallocation+Error&meta=

Creaky, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Nero 6.6.0.8 from the Nero sight yesterday. Didn't make any difference. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are the latest versions available.
I know this is going to sound like a computer newbie question but I've been working with PCs for 20 years. I have never attempted to get a text listing of a folder, what command or function do I use ?
Hehe thats why creaky wants to see the directory you have your movie parked in. It seems to be missing something... edit... You can always just type in the listed files. I don't know how else you would do it. If you are missing .vob files .... say VTS_01_1.VOB is there, along with VTS_01_3.VOB but the one listed abovee is missing then you will get an error. Posting the files will give us a chance to sort 'em out. sometimes you can even re-name them so the sequence remains unbroken. However if you are missing other required files we can figure that out too. We just need to see what you have...
lol, don't be daft. i do Unix for a living and i lose count of the times i type 'ls -l' in a dos box. use 'dir' .
@fasfrank - not quite - i have a google hit with single files bigger than 1GB, so exploring that angle..
The 'VTS_01_2.VOB' file is present in the folder and is 1.048 GBits in size. In fact there are 4 vob files (01_1 thru 01_4) in the folder !
Creaky, Before we get any futher along, let me give you some additional background info. I have two PCs that have the same NEC Burner and the same versions of Decrypter and Shrink. The second PC, where I'm having the problem, only has a 40 Gb hard drive and I am constantly erasing older files to make room for the newer files. I typically have 20 Gb of free space at any given time. My main computer has 160 Gb of HD with a second 160 Gb HD for storage. I'm not having this problem on the main PC. The main PC has a Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz processor and the second PC has a AMD 1 Ghz processor, though I don't think the processor is the problem. The AMD PC was doing the job until recently. I don't know if this is even relavent but I had a trial version of AnyDVD installed until about a week ago. I used the remove fuction in the Control Panel to remove it from the AMD PC. I used Registry Mechanic to clean up the Regestry entries after removing AnyDVD. Hope this additional info helps!
Everyone loves anydvd, which is good, but I have been having MUCH better luck with DVD REGION + CSS FREE, then decrypter and/or shrink. Works every time. and REGION +CSS FREE has a free trial download here. www.dvdidle.com/download.htm
