updating firmware

hi everyone,
i know there's plenty of threads on this and i have taken the time to read through a few i still have a couple of questions..
i have a starview box in which ive had to input the codes manually anytime there was a roll for the past year and i want to thank everyone who has posted the new ones on this site mainly the mod's thanks again i didnt get to miss any footie which was brilliant.
i have checked to see what type of box mine is it has 13/7 which means 1st generation.. so does this mean its a genuine box???
also is it just the 1 cable i need that null modem one?and can this be bought in dublin as in a walk in shop rather than buying over the web??

there is a maplins in dublin is on the same street as toymaster and smyths down at the bottom of henry street, dont know the street name tho.

does anyone know if thebox is 1st generation is that a genuine or clone or what? it has 13 by 7 vents on the box???????
