Hey guys, I recently bought a Sony BDP-S550 from my uncle with no external USB jump drive and don't even have a box or manual -.- Anyway had some problems playing Crank 2 the other night so figured needed firmware update. It was out of date of course and I updated via burning the update .iso to a cd-r. Works fine, but my question is this, can I update the firmware using a USB jump drive by putting the .iso update on the jump drive and inserting it in the Blu-ray player. I've read over the support page on updating the firmware and Sony only lists 3 days: Network, Create a Disk, or Request a Disk. Sony Support Page: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=BDPS550&upd_id=4556&os_id=7 I don't have one of the slim jump drives for it but if its possible to update from now on via the USB jump drive I may buy one instead of having to burn a cd-r each time. Any helps appreciated, Thanks Ryan
I've tried many USB drives and most of them just do not fit, only the Sony Micro Vault Tiny drives. However I don't think it's possible to update via USB drive. I assume you must have an internet connection, so just update via Ethernet if you can. Most websites are out of date with the firmware updates for this player anyways, and disks take a while to receive after a firmware is released.
