Hi guys. I was thinking of buying an iPhone 3GS (sealed) from eBay and then unlocking it myself at home. But then I read somewhere that if you unlock it at home and then later upgrade the firmware, the phone can become bricked or something. Is this true? Please advise!

P.S: Can i trust buying an iPhone from eBay?
    Thanks!

it wont become bricked, but if you update the OS on the iphone via itunes, then it normally will un-jailbreak your phone, and you will have to rejailbreak. sometimes this is not a problem, but most of the time it is, as the devs have to come out with a new exploit and new software to jailbreak the phone.

so if you do get one, dont immediately update to the newest OS. 3.0.1 is safe to update to though.
