Hi guys, Have googled and searched the forums here.. If ive missed something please post the link (whilst abusing if required) Anyway running an amd athalon 64x dual core 4400+ and have just upgraded my Nvidia 6800gs 256mb (i know old) to an Radeon hd 4890 1gb and my screen looks horrible and blurry in comparison, still running at 1280 x 1024, have installed the included drivers any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.. cheers
Also I have a nice Asus motherboard should the graphics card be in the white or blue slot? or does is even matter?
First, go to ATI.com and get the current drivers; the drivers most of those cards ship with is a beta. The card should be in the slot closest to the CPU. Are you using DVI or VGA?
Thanks card is in the slot closest to CPU... Will try latest drivers When I launch call of duty modern warfare 2 the computer turns off when the game should start... I have tried lowering the res to 1048 x 768 to no avail and have ensured no apps running in background.. I will install new drivers and reinstall game..
Yeah it does and it is connected.. I have an additional 500w power supply, Can i plug that into the wall external to the computer and plug the graphics card and nothing else into that psu just to test if its a power supply issue??
how can you turn on that psu as it needs to be connected to the motherboard to be turned on by the power switch. switch psu's to see what happens.
You can use an ATX power supply like that...you just need a relay and a bit of custom wiring; it isn't hard. Use a normaly open relay...connect it to pin 14 (fron the atx connector on the second PSU) on one side, and to a ground from the second PSU on the other side, then wire the rest of it to a molex plug going to the first PSU...this will make it turn on whenever there is power to that molex plug. Just make sure it stays loaded (a video card at idle may not be enough; put all your fans on the second power supply as well).
Thanks for the tips. I bought a 850w gaming power supply for $100 aud this morn and im up and running... Hopefully i put it together ok (had absolutely no clue what i was doing) but its going so i presume alls well
