Hey old buddy, thanks for the reply(no pun intended). Thanks for the link. I read thru everything there, and didn't find anything that I don't already do(I even shut off my indexing svc long ago). I'm starting to think that maxing out my memory was just the computer equivalent to "assisted living"(again...no pun intended). This machine of mine is about 6-7 yrs old(not sure what that is in computer years ??? ).I also re-formatted my comp after I maxed out my memory, soo "bloating" shouldn't be an issue. I think it's probably just time to gift this thing to a 2nd or 3rd cousin and move on...unless you can suggest a diff scan/idea that might point me in a diff direction.

    narcismo,

    Just a thought.... [IMG]

What is your "E" drive? And, if it's not the main drive, why are you running your Firewall, Anti-Virus and SandboxIE from there???

It'a a Dell Desktop Dimension 2350, 2.4GHZ Pentium, 60 G hd(3 partitions with plenty of free space), 1G memory, running Windows XP sp2. I use Comodo Internet security/firewall/AV. Anything else...? I hope this helps. Thanks.

2oG, "E" drive is 1 of 3 partitions om my hd. I use that partition specifically for programs i've dowmloaded. Most progs (other than windows) operate from that drive. Can that cause any promlems ?

IMHO - It may be time to upgrade.... My slowest computer is running a stock Dual Core AMD Athlon II X2 250 @ 3.0GHZ, 4GB Ram, 500GB HD and Windows 7 Ultimate....

Change is Inevitable - Growth is Optional

nothing wrong with that system depending on what you use it for. go into system properties & select advanced tab. click on performance tab & select settings. select the advanced tab at top & see what the virtual memory is set to.

Sigh :-( Thats what I'm thinking also. This old horse is ready to be put out to pasture.
I feel as if a eulogy is in order....
...She lived unknown, and few could know
    When my computer ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and O!
    The difference to me.

    You shall be missed.

Another thought for the day...What's worse, a frontal labotomy, or a bottle in front of me?

Thanks again for the reply, you guys are awsome, and I totally appreciate all of your help. My current paging files are set at 384, max is 768. Do you think I should up it, or would moving them to a diff partition( I think I tried that before, a few years back, and it didn't work) help or hurt?
Anyway, I'm sure it's time for a new machine, but if this one is still tweakable, I'm sure I can find a use for it at my business. Thanks

Sometimes it pays to listen to conflicting opinions.. I never take one man's opinion as Gospel nor will I follow a crowd off a cliff just because everyone is doing it.. lol
ddp will resurrect your old machine and I will build you a new one.. Place your order... :)

On your paging file, I use 1.5 times memory and set the min. and max. the same so that windows don't keep fiddling with it. You can find some good tips here:

Thanks for the link, I saw some good ideas there. I'm deff going to try a few tweaks with the paging files now that there's a bit more memory to work with.
When I'm ready to build the new machine(soon) I'll deff look you up.
Thanks again 2oG....Peace out Boy Scout :)

I've just increased my virtual mem, and trimmed my start-up list of progs, but this thing is still ridiculously slow at start up. After i d-click on firefox to browse, it literally takes about 3-4 min before it actually loads. Even after it loads, and I'm able to surf, it still acts like it just woke up from a 1000 year slumber.
I'm still tweaking the paging files idea, and will post any progress, but...if this sounds familiar to anyone...please give me a heads up. Thanks.

what is your virtual ram set at now? whst is your free ram at now? check in msconfig\startup to see what is running as most likely some don't need to be in startup.

sounds like you need to reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows if it takes that long to load you've got trouble and a new larger hard drive would help repairing an OS is a very hard task and most of the time you do more harm than good
