I have downloaded the latest firmware for my Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1633S. When I run the upgrade it does not recognize my drive. When I go through my control panel/hardware and bring up the drive it says it is a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1633S. When I check the driver it is using a Microsoft driver from 2001. I believe this is my problem with illegal disc error I am having with burning with nero. How do I upgrade the firmware for my drive?

Did this drive come with the pc by chance or did you buy it separately?
Did you download the BSOY version from LiteOn's site?

Check which version of firmware you have now. In smartstart go to tools (toolkit in nero 6)>InfoTool then the drive tab. There's a field there that lists the version. Which do you have?

The driver part is ok/normal - that's the last time microsoft updated this driver.

I have downloaded the bsoy version from the lite-on site. The version I currently have is bgs4. When I run the bsoy version it comes up with: No Match Drive Detected This is only for Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1633S drives detected drives 2-0-0-0 K: 4-0-0-0 E:
The drive did come installed when I purchsed my computer. Up until now I have not had any problems. Now I keep getting an illegal disc error. The disc is recognized as being empty but when I go to burn it comes up with an error.

Ok for this LiteOn the manufacturer of the pc would support it. You can check their site for a firmware update but it won't surprise me if they didn't have one.

Or you can use patched LiteOn firmware for it. You would use the patched, crossflashing BSOY from here.
That should hopefully take care of the illegal disc error.
