I currently have 32 bit vista installed on my computer but want to upgrade to 64 bit, i have checked everything and have ensured that all requirements are fulfilled, my computer is fuly compatible but would like to know if my existing 32 bit vista key will work on 64 bit?
I am not totaly sure on this but i believe it depends on what version of Vista you have. I know that Ultimate came with both 32bit and 64bit disks so in that case I do not think that you would have to change your key. I am pretty sure that when you buy home or home prem. it only comes with either the 32bit disk or the 64bit disk. So unless u are downloading the upgrade from the Microsoft website you would need to get a new disk. Goodluck Hope this helps
If you bought vista ultimate it would come with 32 and 64bit media and the key would work with both, If you have home premium or basic then you will have to either buy a 64bit copy or go to the Microsoft website and order the 64bit media and only pay shipping and handling(I can get you the link if you need it), that's only if its a retail copy. If the PC came preloaded with vista then you will have to go to the manufacturer of that PC and request the 64bit media (Should theoretically be free for you). Also, You cant upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, you have to completely uninstall or overwrite the 32bit version (if that's what you meant)
