Trying to upgrade hard-drive-did softmod using AR-Stealth-no problems-Unleashed is my dashboard-everything works fine-except no one told me I shouldn't unplug my Xbox-solved clock cycling problem on my own after reading various web-sites.
During softmod-usual backups were performed. Xbox & PC are connected-router-FTP works great. I have even backed up everything from Xbox to 2 separate hard-drives on my PC-somewhere is my eeprom backup but I certainly cannot find a file called eeprom. I did a file search for *.bin files and found 5 different bios bin files on my 2 hard-drives in the backups from the Xbox. New Hard-drive from scratch going fine-thought eeprom was on the iso-it isn't-copied the 5 bin (bios) files to floppies-still says it can't find eeprom. Computer back-together-new hard-drive is fine-merely takes me to back to step 3 to lock-unlock utilities and then looks on CD for eeprom and it obviously isn't on the floppies-have to find my eeprom file to continue. Xbox is still intact and can access by FTP. How do I find the eeprom backup or how do I do a backup of the eeprom so that I can continue the hard-drive upgrade. Why is there not a file named eeprom backup? Thanks for your anticipated reply.

so you have the whole E drive backup on PC. Then the eeprom is in there.

I have 5 files-all the same size-256k-in various backup directories that relate to the backup once I could FTP the Xbox. They are all called bios with the extension 'bin'-and likely are duplicate eephrom files. I copied them on to a floppy renaming them bios, bios1, bios2, bios3, bios4. When the Xboxhdm programs looks for my eeprom files-they obviously were not copied in the eephrom backup on the ISO I created. It then asks for them in other locations-A drive. Inserted A drive but get a message that eeprom can't be found in either the ISO created or on the A:drive. Do I just rename the file(s) eeprom.bin? I would think they are copies of the same file-they wouldn't be different-so that I would have to worry about getting the right one-I could check them once I find a bin reader & check the serial no. on the bottom of the Xbox. I got an article from another site re: reading the eeprom.bin so I think I know what to look for once I get a bin reader. Thanks for your reply.

bios.bin is way different from eeprom.bin. If you have the complete E drive on xbox, then I can find it for you.

there are 2 folders you should look into on E drive:

    BACKUPS\
    UDATA\

    Thanks
I know 2 of the bin files are in Udata or Backup directories from the Xbox drive. I am not at home-will have to identify them later tonight. Do I have to rename to eeprom.bin for the XboxHdm program to work? I did copy all of the different bin files to a floppy-but named bios, bios1, bios2, bios3, bios4-Xboxhdm wouldn't recognize them as eeprom backups for some reason when directed to the A drive where the 5 files were copied-they are all 256 kb size files.
    Thank-you again.

make sure it is the backup of eeprom. then you can rename it to eeprom.bin for xboxhdm to work.

I think the eeprom backup must be one of the following 256 kb bin files that are backed-up. They were all named bios bin. I renamed each one to copy on a floppy so as not to overwrite them. There are other bin files on my PC but clearly they don't relate to the Xbox.
    1)
    bios0-C:\Program Files\Xbox\Udata\454100d\000000000000
    256 kb bin file April 22, 2005
    2)
    bios-Udata 454100d/000000000000
    256 kb bin file April 22, 2005
    3)
    bios3-Udata/2158554/00000000000
    256 kb bin file Feb. 26, 2005
I would think it would be either 1 or 2-the 3rd one is the same Udata/2158554/000000000000 as another bios file same size that I initially tried to use from a different web-site which never finished-the 2158554 # is the same.
1 and 2 look the same-do you think 1 or 2 is the proper eeprom. If any doubt-I have several 20gb hard-drives that are lockable that I have to destroy and if I am going to create a paper-weight-I would rather do it with one of them then the new 200 GB drive.
Thanks again for all your help.

You would know better than I-I know computers better than the workings of an Xbox-but I'm learning. Rather than take a chance I guess I could backup the eeprom again. What is the easiest way to back up the eeprom-just point me quickly in the direction that you would take-backup, new dashboard, Aid 3.0, or do I have to re-mod the Xbox with splinter-cell? From reading the forum there are many others that need more help than I do-at least my Xbox is modded and works fine.
    Thanks again!

Run the config magic on xbox. it has options to back up eeprom, lock hdd. You need mod xbox to use it.

What if I un-mod the Xbox using Sid4 (AR & Splinter Cell) and then re-do the Mod-can you tell me where Sid4 puts the eeprom backup and what it looks like. I've seen some posts that indicate the unmod is seamless. I know I deleted saved games from the prior owner of the Xbox and I guess the installation saves before I backed up the harddrive to my PC-and that was probably where the backup of the eeprom was? I should then be able to locate the backup eeprom and back it up to the PC and to a floppy and continue my installation? Will this work or are there other problems?
    Thanks for your help.

yes you can. When you backup eeprom, it will be a SID file.
    I will show you.

Went back in and copied the 2 linux folders for SC from AR and got into the Sid4 install program. Did eeprom backup, MS backup and re-modded the Xbox. Was told eeprom would be backed up to E:\Udata\21585554\000000000000\backup & later in E:\Backup\Eeprom.
Finished install & checked everything out-works fine. FTP to E:Udata finds an actual file named eeprom.bin 256 kb created March 31, 2006.
This must be the proper eeprom.bin file? What do you think?
I am missing the MS Dashboard file in UnleashX if I try to open it-tells me I am missing C:\msdash\xbe. Where can I get that file?
Thanks again for all your help. Will finish the Hard-drive installation as long as you think I have the right eeprom backup now.

    yes that is the eeprom.

to download ms dash, follow the link on my sig or click on my name. Then look for "download xbox file". Then follow one of those link you will find it.

Thanks I will get that file.
I think someone else had the same problem of missing MS dash and can't find eeprom-I was able to re-do the eeprom backup etc. re-mod by copying the 2 SC files from UnleashX (Saved Games) to the hd without the memory box from msdash that I used initially to copy to the hd-got into SID4 installer without problems after game was inserted. Installer went as before but this time clearly created a eeprom.bin file at the end of the installation.
