I have window xp, mother board Intel D875PBZ, P4 3.0 ghz processor.
Friend of mine build this system for me which is now 5 years old, I started with only 512 mb, couple of years ago I added 1 gb memory, which makes it 1.5 g ram, it even shows 1.5 when i go to system properties. This motherboard has 4 memory slots, see below specs:

    Maximum Memory 4.0 GB
    Memory Expansion 4 sockets
Memory Comments PC2100/PC2700/PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR. Supports ECC.
    CPU Type Intel Pentium 4
Model Comments 533/800MHz FSB, Intel 875P Chipset, ATX

Today I decided to add more memory to 3gb or maximum 4 however all 4 sockets are used, 2 of them has 512 stick & other 2 has 1 g, so if this is the case then should it not be 3g memory?? & if so why is system property showing only 1.5
    Thank you,

moved to correct forum as not a windows issue. what does the bios show for ram amount? try 1 stick of ram 1 at a time to see which shows up & then try 2 sticks at time then 3 then 4. try all sockets 1 at a time with 1 stick at a time as maybe bad sticks or bad slots.
