Hiya i am going to upgrade my motherboard and cpu, i am currently sporting a pentinum d 3.0ghz dual core and a crappy foxconn motherboard. So i was thinking of getting a Asus M4A78T-E AMD 790GX (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard and a AMD Quad Core Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 - Retail. Could any of you techie types suggest anything better i could get for the money?
Stay away from ASUS. Bad reliability. What case do you have? What PSU? What RAM and other parts do you utilize? I would personally suggest a Core i5 but your going to spend more.
Really? I'd always thought that Asus were pretty good, its just I kind of wanted to get a 790gx mobo and that was the best one I found. I currently have a 400w psu, 4gb of ddr2 RAM and a raedon x1950 pro. As for the i5 it is very expensive and I won't be able to use it with a 790gx mobo.
Why would you want a 790GX? The only good version of the 790 was the 790FX, and you can't get it anymore unless you buy used. Yes, ASUS is crap. DFI is more reliable, and DFI is more concerned with features than reliability. Gigabyte seems to make the most reliable boards these days, but some might argue that the honor goes to Evga. I am an old AMD fan...but even I cannot recomend an AMD processor anymore. There may come a day when AMD is once again the best value or the best performance...but it does not look like it will happen soon. The core2 series is faster than the Pheonom II series, and the i5/i7 make the core2 look slow.
