I have been looking at upgrading my CPU, but I don't know what other ones will be compatible with me current one. Right now I have a AMD Sempron 3000+, Package 754. I am mainly looking to upgrade it for games and right now I am pretty sure it has 1.8 GHz and I wanted something around a 3.0 GHz. Any help would be appreciated thanks.
I'm pretty sure that no other AMDs will fit this socket, the highest you can go is 1.8Ghz. If you have a PC, you could change out your motherboard, one that is socketed for a higher processor.
I have been looking around and that was what I have figured out, but then how can I tell what mother boards would be compatible with my computer.
Well, there will be several factors you'll need to look at: 1) Will the new motherboard fit your existing case? 2) Will your current RAM fit the specifications of your new motherboard? 3) Will your graphics card fit the specifications of your new motherboard? 4) Will your existing power supply produce enough to supply your new setup? 5) Will your hard drives/optical drives fit onto the motherboard? Look if the drives are IDE or SATA, how many connections you will need, etc. Also think about USB/Firewire/Ethernet and anything else you might need or want on a motherboard. More than likely you'll have to pick up a case with your mobo, unless you're into modifying your own cases. I'm not sure to what extent you need to upgrade your processor, but you could also look into "barebones" systems that would allow you to reuse your RAM, drives, etc. These usually come with the case and motherboard, so your processor would be purchased seperately, but its probably your best bet at upgrading your computer for the least amount of money. If you take your old tower into any good computer store, they should be able to help you. Cheers mate
