Upgrading my laptop

    I have a gateway solo 9300 with a p3 600mhz and I was wondering if there was any way to change the cup to like a p3 1.0ghz processor

    its probably better just to change the laptop than try to upgrade it. they dont make p3s anymore

    the thing is that I found a p3 and I am very short on cash as of now and cpu is only about $30.

    is it a p3 meant for a laptop though? if it is id go for it if its only $30

    check your manual or site to see if can go to that speed.

    how can I check if I can cuz my manual is non existant

    non-existant as in don't have or very little info? check the gateway site for manual & specs on motherboard or computer.

    ok the gateway site says I have a Intel 440BX chip set, PCI bus version 2.1.

    see in the bios if can change cpu speed.

    does gateway site give you a board layout as there might be switches on the board to change cpu speed?

    there are no board layouts. where are the switches usually located?

    laptops if like desktops than switches can be anywhere. also possible the board will auto sense the speed of new cpu but not certain.
