Hello, I am upgrading my computer from a Pentium 3 to a Pentium 4 on a bit of a tight budget and I'm trying to minimize the number of things that I need to replace in my computer. I don't have very much experience with hardware and I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me work out what needs to be replaced and what I should replace it with... I've included a couple of questions and the specs of my computer below. Thanks. Questions: I'm thinking of getting a 3.0 Ghz P4 CPU. Is this motherboard (see specs below) compatible with P4 CPUs? If not, what is a cheap, reliable P4 M\B? I only have a 250 watt Power Supply. Will this need to be replaced for the new motherboard? What wattage P/S should I get? Current Specs: Motherboard: D.F.I. model# CA64-B CPU: Pentium 3 930 Mhz Power Supply: 250 watt Video Card: Nvidia Vanta AGP model#: CE-406 Case: Wisetek Full Tower
you will need a new motherboard, and power supply. while you are at it, graphics also. everything else should be reusable. if you are looking for cheap, go to newegg and look for some combo deals
will also need new ram as old ram is probably sdram whereas p4 boards are using ddr or ddr2 ram, they are totally different from sdram.
