Sorry about creating ANOTHER topic about it but I searched and couldn't get a clearly defined answer. Correct me if I'm wrong but the way I understand it if I already have the Homebrew Channel and a Wad Manager then I am ok to upgrade. All I really want to do with my system is play the Wii and GC backups using backup launcher 0.3, play wiiware/VC, and maybe some homebrew. If I read it correctly it seems I should be able to do that. My question is what else do I need to install before I go through with this? I haven't been keeping up with updates so I haven't installed an updated HBC since January if there's been any updates. I also haven't downloaded an IOS or anything since version 7. I want to play Madworld and I'm reading that I need the 002 fix. Is that all? Also is it ok to update through the Wii system update or is there a better method? Thanks in advance
To play madworld all you need is the cios 002 fix. If you plan in upgrading to 4.0, Read along, line by line , some people skip the steps thinking its ok and proceed with the next step. RESULT: A Brick Wii.Wii can no longer play backups or install WADs before you upgrade make sure your madworld works or any of your backup games using Gamma loader. (if you have modchip load cios ver8) http://www.yafaze.com/wii/menu4.0hack.html So if you follow step by step and you have all neccesary IOS then you can proceed. They key is : You must have the Cios Rev8 (with 002 fix). see also thread below. --update: cIOS Rev 9 is out, you can install before upgrading or after upgrading to 4.0 (with rev8) http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/760685 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/760402 But still upgrade at your own risk, My Wii is from 3.2u to 4.0u, I followed method 1 and everything works (GC, WAD, EMU and Wii backup). I don't have modchip and don't have Trucha signed game, no preloader, no softMii only starfall. result:I't was a smooth upgrade. some sad stories(sorry guys): with mod chip and no cIOS v7 or 8. --- fix: should have loaded cIOS v8 before upgrade http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/760641 With cIOS v7 or V8 and but cannot play trucha signed Game: -- fix should have used IOS downgrader after 4.0 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/760199
I'm following the excellent instructions linked to here (@yafaze.com) but am not successful for now. The install of IOS60 is failing. My Wii has the Homebrew Channel installed, but I'm not sure I have IOS Rev8. How can I check what level it is ? When I try to install cIOS36_Rev8 from the Homebrew Channel this fails with Error 2012. Markus
what is your region? i hope you have not upgraded to 4.0 yet. how old is your Wii, does the serial number start with LU64**? for cios8: are you able to play backup games? Do you have modchip? are you able to install WADS? if not sure about cios8: google IOS36-64-v1042.wad , it is illegal to me to point you where to get it ( i will get banned from the forum). but reading your post from the other forum seems like you upgraded to 4.0 not even sure if you have cIOS ver8, this might be the case since you cannot install ios60 ,as well as install again the cios ver8.
My Region: Switzerland/Europe My Wii is about 18 months old (bought in Nov 07), Serial starts with: LEH1... I can not play backup games (no loader installed). I have no modchip, installed Homebrew Channel via Zelda hack. I can not install wad's (Error 2012). I found CIOS8 via Google without problem. But I don't think I installed CIOS8 before, except if this was part of the procedure to get the Homebrew Channel installed. It looks to me like I'm stuck for now as I don't think I had cios7/8 installed before upgrading to 4.0. I had the illusion the the Homebrew Channel was all I need and was completely ignoring the rest. So I think I have to wait for a new version of the wad tools to get around Error 2012. Markus
The problem is that I'm already at 4.0, so I can not install any IOS anymore because the tools for this don't work anymore (Error 2012). I probably will want to upgrade to the latest stable release once the tools are able to cope with 4.0. Markus
REV 9 from the change log: [ CIOS36 rev 09 ]: - EHCI module made by kwiirk added. - Support for USB mode in DIP plugin. - Removed NAND permissions check.
Hi I was away from the WII world for a long time so I am kind of lost. I am still with the 3.2U and asking myself what to do from now to catch the train, I mean to update to the 4.0 Any help would be welcommed Thanks in advance
is your Wii modded already? The only major feature is SD, where you can move all your WADs to SD and play..if this does not interest you stick with your 3.2? If you plan to update to 4.0 then post should more than enough info.. specially to Do's ad don't..read along..
Just as starter: - Install the Homegrown Channel first. The Zelda exploit no longer works with 4.0, but it survives the upgrade just fine. - Install cCIO Rev9 first. It apparently survives the Upgrade. (I can not verify because I did not have a cIOS before upgrading) If you miss the cIOS (I did) then you get Homegrown, but no Wad-Manager. For now all wad-related tools (cIOS installer, Wad-Manager) don't work in 4.0 without an already installed cIOS. I didn't pay attention to the details and upgraded to 4.0 when I heard that my Homegrown Channel would survive. As 4.0 suddenly provided more space I got interested in wad files and found that I'm locked out for now :-(. Markus
Thanks to all of you that answered I will update this week end and give you a report on that Thanks again
I made the jump from 3.2U to 4.0 and have everything working (so far!) I would make sure that you update your Homebrew Channel to the latest available and then follow the instructions found in the other threads to get the latest cIOS installed (rev 9, but I hear you need AT LEAST rev 8 for the 4.0 firmware) and then follow the instructions to patch IOS files and finally upgrade to 4.0. If you do anything out of order, miss a step or go straight to 4.0, I believe it causes a few problems, like Wad manager not working anymore. I can verify that I have the Wad Manager and HBC working via 4.0 with patched files and cIOS rev 9.
