Hello, Im updating my cousins video card in his Dell Dimension 4600i. Im updating from his built in motherboard video card combo that came standard with his pc to a newer ATI diamond something or other. Now my problem lies in the transition from the PC reading the original card to now reading the newly installed ati card. I followed the directions to a T but everytime I reboot to start with the new card I plug the monitor into the new cards plug and the screen's light stays at the yellow color (green is what we need here). The only thing I may have done wrong is 'updating the motherboard's drivers to the newest possible'. Dells web page is a ball of no help so I turn to you fellas for assistance. Please guide me into the right direction. Thanks.
some boards will automatically turn of onboard graphics when it detects that a graphics card is installed.
yes, I disabled the onboard video then shut it down. Inserted the new card and plugged the monitor into it and nothing happend when I tried to start the PC... it turns on but nothing comes up on the monitor.
Im almost 100% sure its AGP and I pretty sure its all the way in. When I turn the PC on the new card's fan begins to spin.
try reseating the card. also try the card in another computer that uses same slot as yours to make certain the card is good or bad as have come across that a few times with new cards being bad.
