OK, its a long story - but I think someone is abusing a member of my family. I need to set up a wireless HIDDEN cctv system but have a small budget.

I was thinking of using pinhole cameras, but the camera needs to be small, have no wires, etc. so I was thinking wireless?

The stuff I currently have is -

2PCs, a laptop and a 54Mb wireless router. I need a minimum of 2 cameras, they are going to be set up in the kitchen and in the living room.

BUT they need to have a VERY good microphone. I need to be able to hear absolutely everything as clearly as possible. I dont mind having to add audio to video afterwards, but i would prefer to be running some sort of wireless setup with some kind of CCTV software on my pc.

    Any Ideas?

Ooh, a stakeout... but actually, wouldn't you have better luck asking in, like, a security forum or something? I believe most of the folks here would only be able to help you with more common video stuff.

...that said, you COULD get a video camera that records to itself, meaning you'd be able to pick it up later. It wouldn't have any wires or anything, but the drawback would be that you wouldn't be able to pick it up until a later time.

As for audio, I'm not sure.

I'd like to help, but I'm not too knowledgeable in that area.

Nah, this is the best tech forum. I wouldnt mind picking it up later, as long as it records for hours and is small.

Also, I need to install something in the phoneline to record the conversations. How would I go about doing this?

(P.S its a long story but I can explain why if anyone needs to know)

That's called a wiretap.. and is illegal.. in fact it's criminal unless you are one of the people involved in the conversation.

Hence why it'd be better to talk to somebody who specializes in that field... :p

But now that you've posted it on a public forum, when the cops get on to you, they'll find your post here, and then they'll track your IP address back to your house and then they'll bust in the door shouting "Freeze! Freeze!" and then you'll lock up in fear and bolt straight for the patio door and crash through the window only to be tackled by the pool and then you'll see that there's an entire force tracking you and you had no hope at all and then the helicopter whirls above you shining its light into your eyes and blinding you and then the cold cuffs clink around your wrists and you've been had you've been had and you look up past the cone of light and you see walking toward you the same person you were trying to listen in on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...but yeah, that's illegal. Privacy an' all. Why do you think there was such a stink after the Patriot Act?

So is abusing a 70 year old woman. Besides, im not using the evidence in court, I just want to prove to my family whats been happening.

I know the legal issues, HOWEVER, the evidence can be used in court regardless how it was obtained, unless a police officer obtained it without a warrant, in which case the conversation cant be used against the defendent in court. Im just using it to stop this guy myself, hes been abusing a 70 year old woman. He puhed her over and pulled her hair before, when I found out I was gonna kill him but I thought I should record it and give it to the cops.

Okay, great, but that still doesn't mean we can give you advice on how to do something illegal. Accessories to the crime an' all that.

I don't think video recording is illegal, but I also don't think anybody's gonna be able to help you with the wiretapping business.
