    My question
Can classic old American movies recorded on USA type DVD be played
in France ? Would there be a hardward or software problem ?
    Thanks in advance,
    G

US uses region 1 for its DVDs, while Europe uses zone 2. Thus, you need to change your region setting on your PC DVD to ensure correct playability.

The problem is you can only change your region 5 times before its permanently fixed. To skip this you can use a program such as DVD Region free, that is an application that bypasses the region problem when playing the movie in most current players.

Another choice is to take your region-1 movie and rip it to your HD with Decrypter and then either watch it from there or burn it to a good media disc.

Or, make your DVD RPC-1 (that is region free) and no worry about that stuff at all.

By the way, all this applies for your PC. If you are referring to a stand alone player connected to your TV set then you should either have a multizone DVD player or make a region free back up.

    KoKoMo,
Thanks sooo much for your complete, precise and most helpful reply. Copy/pasted it into my data base subject 'powerDVD' Your response was the best of the lot from several forums.

There ar several 'cult' USA movies I wish to have - like 'The Maltese Falcon' in the original English and not dubbed-in French!

    Cordially,
    Georges

    Messieurs KoKoMo et Pulsar,
My English is good however you wish communicate in FR that's okay.

    fax : 04 94 38 51 17

OH CRAP, what have I started here?
OK, that's about the limit of my French! I can only talk reasonable tourist French, but I think that you wish to know which version of Power dvd should you get, well I only use windvd. Whether it is 2 or 6 channel does not make much difference to me, as I only really use my standalone dvd players (Pioneer & a Toshiba) for playback of movies.

    Pulsar

WinDVD is the 'other one'. Went to several forums my query which of two versions powerDVD was better. Never got an answer. Maybe KoKoMo knows. Would you pls ask one of the senior monitors of this forum.(only if you've got nothing better to do)
    Cheers,
    G

Yes it is a lovely little hotel, the people there are really nice, they don't speak English, but that is not a problem for me!
I am not sure which version of power dvd is better. I guess it depends what you want it to do. Personally, I would go for the cheaper option, unless the more expensive has features that you want.
Like I said, I am not too concerned about the features, as I only watch my movies through my standalones. Cost is also a factor, are the extra features worth it?

    Pulsar
