Which pipe is better for video capturing? I have devices that use both and so far, both seem to be nominally the same speed wise. My USB device captured at 604kbs and the firewire at 594kbs. Not really a huge difference but it appears that the firewire device (ADVC100) seems to be more flexible with regard to capturing software than the USB device (Plextor ConvertX).. Opinions?
Well, i'm not entirley sure it makes any differance cuz if its for DV transfer then the miniDV can not transfer any faster than realtime One thing about fire wire is that it is actually a Network device realtated to ethernet technology i think. so it may be a little more stable then USB2 arr who cares... just use the tools that help you the most!
I am amazed that you are geting that with USB 2, I was just going to recommend Firewire, as typically more trusted for large or continous transfers. But as Shorty2K said, use what works.
Tanx all. I decided to keep the ADVC100 Firewire device and put the ConvertX back in the box. Guess the Plextor ConvertX unit will wind up on EBay..
