There seem to be a few posts about peeps with problems with their Null Cable to USB adapters when flashing Starview firmware- even where the COM ports match in device manager and the uploader they still don't work. Like others with this problem I took my box to a PC with a serial port so avoiding the need for an adapter and it worked perfectly. However its a pain as it means to get channel dumps etc. I have to keep taking my box to work! Several experienced posters have mentioned that these adapters can be a right pain in the a*se. Could I ask how exactly? What is the basic issue here? Is it driver issue? Will buying a different adapter help if the first one doesn't work?
Thanks. So just a PCMCIA card for a laptop? Seem to vary from £6 to £40. Will the cheap ones do? These OK off fleabay: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/_W0QQ_...MCIA+serial+DB9&_fromfsb=0&_trksid=m270.l1313 Cheers
Yes they are fine, you will find what you need here £5 plus P&P. I havent tried the PCMIA cards you have indicated above, but worth a try for that price I suppose.
Cheers for that. Sorry to be dim but that wouldn't work on a laptop would it - I assume needs a PCMCIA.
That seems like the way to go then, especially as the usb adapter from Maplins is £12 reduced from £23 (or so they told me!)
