    Hi folk,

as above are all USB DVD Writers pretty poor? Ive only tried one unit in particular which is a Lite-on 8x USB 2.0 unit and have had variable success with it. Its about 100% fine with data but is very random with movie backups. Ive allways put it down to the speed at which the USB 2.0 system can operate at, which from my understanding is far below the quoted 480Mbps when error checking and other data CRC stuff is taken into account. So can anyone tell me tales which are in constrast to this or are you folk having similar experiences to me??
Ive tried several pc`s and various dvd media types all with varing success.

    thanks for reading.

I have three USB drives and old NEC 1300a, a LiteOn 1633S and a Plextor 716a. All perform as they should in fact the Plex will burn DVD at 16x and no PI/PO errors. If you are having problems it maybe your setup.

    thanks for the info peeps;)

looks like the problem was not running the drive from a seperate usb 2.0 card. tried that and monitored the transfer speed, it now runs loads faster.

    Thanks again.
