Okay, i don't think i got any crap from these boards, but some people on other boards gave me alot saying you wouldn't be able to get a .elf file for USB Extreme. To all of them.... in your face!

USB Extreme available here (this is a .bin & .cue format, there is a tutorial somewhere on the site to tell you how to get a .elf out of it):
    http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=hd.html

The client software you will need to format the HDD for use with USB Extreme is here:
    http://www.hdadvance.com/download/

And for those of you who need a pretty much idiot proof tutorial on how to do the mc exploit on your system with the bare minimum of stuff check this out:
    http://ps2hd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88

To put the usb extreme on a slim ps2 i would recommend using a normal ps2 (a friends or something) and doing the mc exploit on it first, to an extent, you don't need to do the whole thing, just set up the files you need to make an ftp connection. Then do the mc exploit as normal except instead of the hd loader/advance elf use the usb extreme one. Slap that mc from the old ps2 to the slim ps2 and bam, done.

Has anyone gotten USB Advance (not extreme) working with a v12 PS2 console cause i want to know if the boneheads on PS2NFO.com are lying as they said it doesn't. They don't even let you talk about it over on there site or they will ban you. man noe they know how the people who created HD loader feel when they ripped that off and created HD advance

What kind of loading times are you seeing? Is it about the same as loading off a dvd, or is it slower? Overall, is it worth it, or is it a waste?

Ya, the USB extreme web site would say that their product is fast. I wanted to ask someone who isn't biased and actually owned it. I will be getting some SM 3.3 disks in the mail any day now, so we'll see.

After reading quite a bit of info on the subject, I've moded my slim ps2 by using a combination of what many of the guides suggested. I used double sided tape on the rear sensor and then layed a piece of paper over it to keep the top from sticking. I taped the disk break back against the inside of the cd cradle using more double sided tape. For the front sensor, I used the usb trick. This way, my ps2 works completely normal unless I put in the usb key and then it thinks the tray is always closed. I am SOOO ready to get my swap magic disks. I already have 5 burned games that I'm itching to play.

I was wondering if it is possible to take an ISO or some kind of PS2 game I downloaded off a torrent site intended to be played one way or another, and put it on an external hard drive that is formatted with usb extreme and play the downloaded games on my ps2, and if so how.

    Thanks

i think you need to write the iso to a dvd or cd then load it to the external hd using your pc after its been burnt. (i think, not sure if im right though)

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure it'll let you use a regular hard drive as an external one, but I have no idea what the PS2's hard drive connections are like. And I'd be surprized if HDAdvanced and USBextreme files would be cross compatible, but that's kinda like my question-

I've got USBadvance and a nice external drive, and I'm able to get regular games to work (ex. Ace Combat 5)using the USBextreme Windows software to load them, because the command prompts just don't seem to work. However, I've been trying to get God of War to work the same way, but it seems that the USBextreme software isn't loading the secound layer, it's only taking up 3 or so gigs, and of course, doesn't work. Any suggestions?

i know the hd will hook up ok using it but all the programs are rip offs of the hdLoader arn't they? so it should be compatible any way. does anyone know for sure?

I know USBadvance is an extact copy of UBSextreme, but since HDadvanced supposedly has different performance numbers and runs a slightly different way, with the two discs and all, I'd just be skeptical. But yeah, does anyone know for sure?

Just found out over at the ps2 scene forums that [bold]usbadvance doesnt work on infinity chips with the macrovision fix enabled[/bold], sure enough i disabled it and USBadvance started right up!

    [bold]In reply to Tyler9368's question[/bold]

Just mount your downloaded ISO on a virtual drive thru alcohol 120 or daemon tools. then point the usb extreme software to the virtual drive letter when you want to install something.

    found this as well:

[bold]it does not matter if you format your HDD in FAT16 or FAT32, both work fine. It completely makes ul_format useless...[/bold]

apparently all you really have to do is have a FAT formatted drive, so you dont have to screw around formatting it via USBadvance's interface
