Am relatively new to scene and need some help...

I got magic swap 3.6 and the slide tool at the very reputable and fast modchip.ca, after a very bad experience with "modchipnow.com" who ripped me off 70$.

3.6 works great and have used it to play a copy of dragon quest 8, whet my appeatie for more hacked goodness. I also found out it has a usb load feature, which I want to investigate.

Been thinkign about a hardrive hack, I got a USB2.0 200 gig I can use, but I need to know, maybe having the internal drive is better? Since I got the older ps2, it doesn't matetr to me if it's internal/external, I care most about how it works. load times/compatibility.

I have read about the memory card exploits, but it seems like a pain in the ass to setup. I don't have a DVD burner, or even a DVD rom on my pc so... I want to be able to put the game (original) in the ps2, and make a backup from there, without the use of a pc. Ideally I would also like to be able to download iso's from newsgroups/torrent sites. and play them also. Playign mp3s or other emulators sounds good also but is not necessary, my pc can already do that....

Anybody have a soild easy to use recommendation? I don't mind paying for HD loader but if there is a free verison out there, I can hunt it down. I think the most recent version works with 120gig and above right? I want to build a large collection fast,:) and have something easy enough for the girlfriend to use. Any help would be appreciated. thanks,

Hi, I found a way to install downloaded game to USBeXtreme HDD.

I just download "Virtual CD" software from here :
    http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpvirtualcd.html

I mount the ISO file using the software and the install program for USBeXtreme install it without problem ...

I hope it will help someone ...

PS.: My NexStar enclosure work with USBeXtreme (2.5inch) but not my Smart-Drive one ...

    ok. here's my problem...

how do i convert downloaded games into an iso file?
for example, some games i download are in a mdf and mds file, but the usbextreme software uses iso files to convert into the external hardrive.

    eh... am i making sense?

    help me.

    thanks.

edit: never mind, i worked it out

What you can use is Alcohol 120%. With this programm you can open several file formats. The program will also make a virtual harddisk on your pc. Within the USB Extreme you can select this harddisk.

i have a new problem. haha... i'm full of em.

not familiar with the ioo file format, which some downloaded ps2 games seem to be in.

which converter would work on this type of file?

alchohol 120% perhaps or dvd encriptor... or magiciso? suggestions are welcome.

    thanks

Get a internal hdd for the reasons already stated. Then go to my site here

    http://members.shaw.ca/PS2_BOOT_CD/

DOwnload the aio cd and you can run hdloader as well as MANY other usefull apps right off the ps2. It is a Cd based program so all you need is a cd burner to run it.

    Hello
I've Infinity 1.5 on my PSTwo, I burnt the USBAdvance.Cracked-PS2Scene on a CDR and on a DVD-R, but none works.
I used USBAdvance.elf after having linked my PC with PSTwo and put the .efl file in my memorie card but with CD/DVD USBAdvance not working, with memorie card it's work (not bootable) but any games can work ...

Could you please help me just for the CDs Version.

For Memory card version, do I rename the file in BOOT.elf before upload to PSTwo ?

you can run my aio disk and use it to boot usbadvance. Just set the default program in launchelf to usbadvance and set the timeout value to 0. It will boot right in for you.

If you ever need to change it just hold down "SELECT" while the ps2 is booting and it will get you back into launchelf to make the changes.

For all those that have been asking the same questions over and over again here it goes:

Q: I pluged in my HD/USB Stick and it says no USB device connected?!
A: Count about 5 seconds from the time you pluged in after that time has passed and still nothing shows then bad luck, your device is NOT COMPATIBLE. There is no way to make it compatible. For USB Sticks a good rule is that if it installs plug and play on XP without requiring any additional drivers you've got a very good chance it will work on the PS2.

Q: Will the speeds match DVD/CD speed?
A: No, the PS2 has only USB 1.1 cabability the v12 has no upgraded USB ports either you are stuck with USB 1.1 speeds wich are much slower than cd/dvd speeds and therefore loading time is increased!

Q: Wtf?! Why would I need USB Extreme/Advance then if it's slow?
A: For Emu's, Media Players, Linux, Demos, PD's and whatever...
It also works somewhat okay for Sega Ages and MetalSlug titles, since those games are fairly small anyways

    Q: Does it boot GT4
A: Yes it does, good luck finding the patch for without that you won't be able to back it up and play on your HD.

    Q: Can I play online
A: As with all HD mods answer is "NO" there is no way to rip DNAS to HD thus no online game will ever play online from Harddisk.

the last one is untrue. ToxicOS has patched DNAS so you can pass it with burnt games, or run games off the hDD.

    OT:

I heard some ppl get their machine ID banned when DNAS server detect that you're on mod. They like to ban quite often. Actually I've been banned twice. 1. I guessed DNAS on one game and it worked but the second time it was a legit gamedisc so I suppose someone must have "guessed" my DNAS. Either way Xbox live seems to be doing better than PS2 4 online games. I was mad that only the $hitbox version of Street Fighter Aniversary had online play.

if you have a legit version of HDloader then you can run your hdd without needing the modchip enabled. If you do that then you can run a dnas patched game off the hdd.

Not to mention that NON dnas games will run off the hdd with no problems at all.

Hi, I have problem with USB Advance on matrix MX 4. it wont load, as I read in previous post I found that on infinity can be fixed it by Macrovision On, but how (if any) can I do this on Matrix MX chip as it doesnot have some kind of manager ? one solution I see is that I can use Swap Magic with disabled Matrix chip to load USB advance.

    Any help welcome.
    thnx

I have a QUESTION!! I have a PS2 (SLIM).I just got the maxtor 80GB with a enclosure. And i just orderd a USBExtreme. If you have a SLIM PS2 is that all you need(PS2, HDD, Enclosure, and the USBEXTREME)? Or do you need the mod and Magic Switch(Ghost Switch)?

I everyone, i just signed up i'm a newbe :) Right back to my question.I have a modded Slim PS2,I think it has a Modbo chip on it.I read a lot of articles about connecting an HDD to Slim PS2.But my problem is although my PS2 has a mod chip it doesnt recognize the burned USBAdvance or Extreme. Is it maybe not supported by this chip?I went to their web-site and it does say that it can boot home-brewed software. All i get is the screen where it asks for a PS2 disc.Ohhh not to mention i tried it without an HDD,dunno if it makes any different though. Can anyone tell me whats going on?

    Thanks a lot
