Okay im getting frusterated at this problem:

Recently my USB ports have not been functioning at ALL..

I tried to plug in my iPod, Digital Camera, and DVD burner all which have drivers updated and none of them are being recognized by the computer..with one exception.. my iPod charges when i plug it into the computer but the computer still doesnt recognize it at all..

I have tried to delete the USB entries in the device manager and refresh the USB stack but that didnt help and i also went into my computers BIOS and everything that said USB was enabled so its not that either..

I have no clue why the USB ports are not recognizing any device i put into them..

Im thinking about going to the store and getting a USB PC card and see if those work..do you think they will even if my other ones arent working?? its worth a try i guess..

    Any help would be appreciated..

    Thank You,
    Nick

eminem12, no exclamation marks in device manager?? do you have usb2 in device manager? check your motherboard near all the usb connection are whether by cable or attached to motherboard to see if there is any fried components.

well there is an exclamation point but that has to do with my ATI RADEON IGP which totally doesnt work correctly anymore so i reverted to the normal video card for my laptop..im not sure if that has anything to do with it..i doubt it..but yes i had three USB root hubs and three USB host controllers..and they all say that they are working..im not sure if i want to open up my laptop just yet..but if i have to that will be the last thing i do..

    any more ideas?

Going into Device Manager and deleting all the USB port entries you see -- Then rebooting or doing a scan for new devices , will force your O/S to re-install all fresh drivers.. ! See if you get a recognition after.

If not, the problems must be one of hardware -- a loose plug, bad contact on your motherboard...... blah... blah.. blah... !

    Good Luck

Hijacking a thread is not appreciated -- best you start your own -- If everyone was to hijack --- it would lead to confusion and nightmares for all ! <Smiles} -- !

nope..i deleted all the entries in USB in the device manager..and then restarted the laptop and they all were found and installed again but nothing i plug into them is recognized..

do you think buying a USB PC card would help..i mean if the other ones wont work do you think the ones on the PC card would..?

MMmmmmmmm...just re-read the thread .... them ATI Radeon card have drivers that are very unstable sometimes -- and they cause weird effects when they go bad !! Might be worth a try to go to www.ati.com and get the latest catalyst drivers 5.2 package -- would not harm to cure your card problem .

Those USB card are not expensive , play dumb take your laptop to the store and try it !!

okay well when i update my ATI RADEON video driver it just crashes my computer on me and goes to a blue screen so i end up having to disable it or i wont be able to go into normal windows mode..

I will be going to get a USB PC card tommorow and i will let you know how it works out..hopefully it at least gives me some working usb ports so i can use my new iPod video when i get it for christmas..
