    Hello,

Have a pc where none of the usb ports work properly. It's a new build and I originally tried installing W7 on it which worked fine apart from the usb ports problem. It doesn't recognize removable drives, it sees them when you first plug it in, sometimes it shows the normal installing hard drive icon but then does nothing and doesn't mount the removable drive (the drives are not showing up in drive management) other times it shows the usb icon (which seems to come up when things have a problem) and if you right click that it shows the list of usb hubs and an unkown device, either way it never gives access to the disk/flash drive.

So I installed xp sp3 thinking the usb drivers in W7 were not compatible with the board (the mboard is an Asrock P4VM890) and the exact smae situation remains, it's the second brand new clean install with the same problem, 2 different os's.

The weird thing is that the usb mouse works fine and the only non disk device that I had to hand which was a TomTom also worked fine! The tomtom and mouse work perfectly in all ports, as does a usb keyboard.

Please help, I don't have a clue what's going on with this. By the way I have uninstalled all the usb hubs and ports in device manager, didn't work, I've also unchecked the power management thing to stop windows powering down the ports when not in use, still nothing working.

    Thanks.

I have had that problem before. When installing WinXP Pro, I found that I needed to disonnect/unistall my flash card reader & USB PCI card. I then installed WinXP Pro with all updates, Turn off the computer, reinstall one compnet at a time and restart.

    It's worth a try...

Thanks for the reply, thing is there are no card readers or pci usb cards, only components are cpu, ram, graphics, 2 hard drives and 1 optical drive.

I might try installing without the graphics card in and see if that makes any difference. I can't see any reason why the mboard should be faulty, it was working fine in another system a few months ago. If it doesn't work after this next install I think I'll just set fire to the mboard and leave it at that.

Thanks for those links to the latest via drivers (bit shabby that Asrock didn't even have them on their site) but it still didn't work!

I even re-installed xp from fresh twice (so thats 4 fresh os installs in total), installed the newest via chipest drivers and all other drivers, no dice, tried the older drivers, nothing...

I think this board is dead.
