I have been using a USB to RS232 cble flawlessly for over a year now. It was plug and play with no external driver required. It comes up in the device manager as USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM4). I recently purchased several of these adapters for some friends of mine to use. The new ones, although they look absolutely identical (translucent blue connectors with a clear plastic cable), they will not work. When they are plugged in Windows detects them and registers them as 'Device working properly' but they won't communicate with the device they get plugged in to. The new cables come up in the Device manager as Prolific USB-to-Serial Com Port (COM 3). I've tried using the disk they came with for drivers, as well as changing to different COM ports to see if that would work but nothing... Anyone ever had this problem? Thanks.
I bought one of these recently, and didn't have any issues other than that I needed to choose COM3 rather than COM1. Presumably you've tried several with the same result?
I did. I've actually tried COM 1 through 6 but with no result. With the drivers completely uninstalled I ran Everest and it's showing the device ID as USB\Vid_067b&Pid_2303&Rev_0300. Everything looks good in the device manager but it just won't communicte for some reason.
Here's the file you're looking for. It didn't work for me but hopefully you'll have better luck. Let me know... http://rapidshare.com/files/107568262/pl2303_driver.zip.html
