TOTALLY OT, hope no one minds!

    Grogey,

All that great information in your posts, and the only thing I zeroed in on was the picture of your home quilting machine!!! We have the same interests - should start a quilting and computers club (and machine embroidery!), though I suspect you're somewhere in the UK and I'm on the other side of the pond. Hard to know where to spend the most time... at the PC, the sewing machine, or paying attention to my family!

    ScubaPete,

I was doing well but I now have a real problem. I was using either DVDShrink+Nero or DVDShrink+DVDDecrypter and having problem both ways. The media is not a problem either because I get the same problem with Verbatim and Ritek both. This is what is happening..In DVDShrink, if I choose the entire source disk (no "re-author"), I never get this problem. But per your direction if I click on "re-author", then drag the "main movie" from the right-side to the left-side (and do not select any "extras", it does not let you drag any part of the movie before the main movie part) and burn..it burns ok without any error..then I get the strange problem..the output disk plays well for the FIRST time on my laptop but when I exit and try to play again, it opens up the WinDVD screen but stalls and nothing happens thereafter.... This happened at least 6-7 times during the last 2 days...Did you have this problem..any suggestion...thanks.

Australia.....land of sunshine hehehehe bloody cold at the moment though! Hi Momof2....like quilting machine huh?? check this out then:
    http://groups.msn.com/APatchworkPlace

Sure you will find something of interest there - I actually added a computer technology message board to the site but don't think it's been used much yet.

In fact.... ScubaPete, darling, I was wondering if you would mind if I posted your guide there??? hehehehehehe thought you might get a kick out of the log.......lol

[ray52]Maybe someone has the answer - seem to remember something somewhere back in my first attempts but can't remember too much now - the brain is too full of all the new information right now.....plus getting ready for family court mediation hearing for kid's consent orders tomorrow......

......oh thats right. make note to self: you are not supposed to be having fun reading the AfterDawn forums; you are sposed to be researching information to back-up your side of things tomorrow.

Send me some positive vibes at 9.15am Melbourne Australia time everyone please!!
When I get it all organised.

Our prayers and heartfelt best wishes are with you grogey bear, - "You go girl !

    Hi Ray

Sorry you're having trouble BUT, don't go tossing those discs (although I can tell, you just LOVE to sail those "Bad Boys" out across the backyard - lol)

Well, we know they're good because they played that first time -

I myself had some trouble (OMG, say it isn't so ScubaPete, not YOU, having trouble) _ Yes sometimes even I have trouble too - Anyway, I always say "Goodness, I'm full of cache." meaning, my memory seems full - all I can tell you is when that happens to me - I reboot my system and when it comes back on, feeling all Fresh and all, I can hit my "Power DVD" player and it will play that "Bad boy" like nobody's business :)

Give it a try, see if it helps - If not, we'll look at somewthing else :D)

    cheers,

    Pete

Has this turned into the longest thread in the history of Newbie forums or what? It has a ton of different subjects in it. It must be the title of the thread that draws them in. If more posts had good thread titles like this it would be eiseier to use the search feature. Tkhat was a not to subtle hint to any Newbies that want to post - Name your threads something pertinant and not somthing like "Help me"

You are right michigan on a couple of things:

1)This is a long long thread and contains a ton of different subjects.

2)This thread has a great titles and therefore attracts lotsa posts.

I have this thread bookmarked because it often provides a good reference point - just a pity it doesn't have it's own index.

a 'sticky' is a thread/post that has been put to the top of that particular forum [as it is deemed of impotance to most if not all users...of said forum].
It is done by either Mod/Admin/Da Boss !!

Question time over for now - ttfn ;-)

Hey compgran in my opinion drop Roxio as fast as you can. You may have to jump through a few hoops to do this tho. After you think you have it gone go to this site and download zapper 60. This will tie up loose ends that Roxio left behind. Otherwise Nero and Roxio will fight to the end usually your's.
If you have problems l.m.k. I just jumped through those hoops 2 days ago.

I would like to thank ScubaPete for your directions on using shrink and decrypter Because of your directions I was able to make my first copy with shrink and decrypter. platinum is on the fritz. I'm asking my self if I even want to keep the platinum. I need to ask you if you could put up directions on doing all the download/burn with decrypter so if I/we have any problems with shrink I will know what to do. Thank you Again ScubaPete

hi all, welcome aboard to the newbies, never use stomp or roxio?1.use nero for cd-disc like data audio so on,not all that great for dvd files?for dvds i use dvdshrink-to the hard drive, then open the folder containing the video files - from there 1 use dvdclone -then burn from there.i just bought 50 arita x4 green faces -r ,used them all got no bad coasters.also a wee tip[dvdregion free}use that. using x3 pioneer 107d -flashed to burn x4 at x8.thats a 4 speed in the rom to burn at x8 so a full film in 8 mins approx.

hi all, maybe i should come back to the main topic DVD shrink 3.1.7
I used shrink 3.1.7, and it works fine except the quality seems not too good!( have some big pixels, and many "dead" pixels ( tiny black dots). I know for the reason that it compressed from 7GB (most movies) to 4.3 GB.
"I found out shrink just because i used dvd cloner v1.99 ( it runs shrink in the back, and you only know when your computer is a decade year old )
Now I just tried dvd cloner II demo version. Its output dvd quality is so good (maybe new "engin"!!! )except I can only play half of the disc even the backup in the HD (I've tried all patches on all version they have, but still can not make it work)
Anyone have the same problem as mine ? I need help
Please just tell, and dont put link or anything to violate the rule of this forum. So do I :)

Thanks for the "sticky" reply now I see it is at the top of the forum page. It's a great htread and I hope the Newbies coming on will start here I believe it has everything you need at least once, if not twice.

    Hi there xbadboy2,

Welcome to the Club and thanks for the nice words -

I have great news for you - DVD Decrypter is really simple - Too simple by far to warrant it’s own guide - BUT you asked so very nicely, I wrote one just for you -

    (Remember though, it is only usable for DVD-5’s - that’s a DVD < 4.36GB)

First, you should, as many of you do already, create a folder for your DVD backup before hand. This is the place on your HD where DVD Decrypter will work on your movie. Try to put it someplace where you won’t forget it - i.e. C:/All DVD work/Pirates of the Caribbean.

Open DVD Decrypter and go to “Mode”, then “ISO”, then “Read”.
Where it says “Source”, put your DVD drive -
Where it says “Destination”, Browse until you find your folder -
Click the “Disc to HD” icon.

After the reading / ripping is finished - Insert your Blank DVD in your burner.
Go to “Mode”, then to “ISO”, then click “Write”.
In “Source” select your folder holding your ISO file.
In “Destination” Browse to your burner -
Click the “HD to disc” icon -

(Now some buddy PLEASE tell me why I had to write this - some things are too easy to explain)

    cheers,

    Pete

    Hi ronan,

I’m glad you’re having such good luck with that media - BUT - there may come a time where you begin having trouble - When that time comes, please remember that you had a super streak - make a note to change your media then :)

Like the man said - “If it ain’t broke, then don’t try to fix it.”

    Peace,

    Pete

Howdy rhumcafe, welcome to our Club,

A suggestion, let’s not even “Hint” about “Bending” the rules, Okie Dokie ?

Now about your poor results with DVD Shrink -

You don’t really need all the extra languages, Directors comments, trailers and such - get rid of those and watch the quality of DVD Shrink go through the roof -

For a totally FREE program, you can’t beat DVD Shrink with a crooked stick in February !

BTW, when you have a few minutes, try DVD2One, most EXCELLENT quality !

    Cheers,

    Pete

thanks for refer to dvd2one, but it is not free though :)
Anyway i will give it a try.

second thought, as in other thread they stated that if we rip out french audio (some movie), the dvd-r after burn will be mute ! ... I have not tried to rip out french audio but I wish just keep them all.

ok well dvdshrink for 1 its an encoding tool also u can re-atuhor the main moves to back up?if u want the extras just encode the whole full+extras dvdshrink will put to the correct size from 7-8-9 gig to the correct 4.7.2.its for free and its a great tool to do the job and if it is set right it will automatic burn to disc also like nero roxio so on.very simple.
1 major thing.the hardware installed in your system is poor u will get poor results or vice aversa.
i use xp pro,3gig amd asus a7n8x-x pc3200x2 2x80 hdds, radeon 256ddr 9200 series vga card x8 3x pioneer 107x8 speed which of course s/w i use dvdshrink, dvdclone latest version+nero 6.3.10 so if u have a reasonable spec pc- u wan't have bad pixels ,dots and stuff its all down to the config of hardware+keep off your pc.
i hope this lights up things feel free,by the way in preferences on dvdshrink u find the settings to automatically burn ,ok cheers

    Thank You.

That ramble cleared everything up for me.
Did the rest of you find that as helpful as I did?
