i just wonder if hardware config can be related to quality orther than speed? The only thing may be affected is graphic card setting!
I run dvdshrink on three different configurations

    1. dell laptop pentium M 1.6, radeon 9000
    2. p3 450mhz, all in wonder 8500dv with catalyst driver
    3. p3 450mhz, all in wonder 8500dv, windows xp driver

all of them still result in dots, bad pixel ( maybe with my picky eyes )

Last night, I formated my HD and reinstall windows ( ie. not upgrade catalyst driver yet) and run 1clickdvdcopy ----> quality is good.

I wish I would have a chance to test on dvd cloner II v2.20. The backup dvd i made from trial version can only be played half of the contain on dvd player even I used "fit to 1 disc". Quality is extremely best. Then I used that backup dvd and "rip" again with shrink ... Shrink only recognized the first two 1GB *.vob's ===> WONDER if dvd cloner II is cheating on "split disc option".! Dont know :(

stalag305 Thanks for your advice about Roxio. I did eliminate it from both of my pc's and currently am using Nero 6.0. Everything has been good since. I am burning quality dvd's with no problem. It's even faster!
I also want to thank all of you. I review all your posts at least once a day. There is so much useful information here! I don't mean to be selfish by not posting information, but I really can't contribute anything. My learning curve is too steep. I know this is a long thread, but I like it the way it is. It's very helpful to a newbie like me. Thanks to you all.

I too am a complete newbie to the whole scene. I have been sucessful thus far with 2 out of 3 burn attempts. I managed to backup X-Men 2 and Thirteen. However it will not backup my 28 Days Later DVD. I believe it is a DVD9 cause it exceeds 4.7.
I'm using a new Dell 4600, Sony DVDrw, I've got DVD Encrypter, DVD Shrink, and Image Tool all installed. However I am not able to burn just the main movie. It seems to want to burn extra footage. When I go to burn I keep getting error messages stating "Unable to find Video_TS file." Even though I see the files right in front of me. Any help would be great. Thanks

    mgb1921,
If you satified with the quality of dvd shrink, you should follow the guide "using dvd shrink and nero" in this website. I cant find the link, but sure it is in here. It is complete step by step to make successful dvd backup. Wish you luck.

Use only DVD shrink to rip and compress, nero for burning.

I honestly dont know why decrypter is needed when Shrink and nero do the job just fine as one engine basically because nero burns behind shrink, without having to change programs.

suppose its a matter of opinion but my way is,

dvd shrink - sort the movies (wanted parts etc.)
    encoding
nero - burn autamatically through shrink

this combo has burnt even cheap media properly for me. It took a while to find the combo, i just used 'trial and success' (never trial and error!!!) to get the combo and now it works like a dream and they are both free, because nero is a demo.

yes, DVD shrink and Nero is a good combination.

mgb1921, It seems to me that the error happen when you add new compilation files to the "video_TS" folder (using Nero). Please make sure you add files to the correct "video_TS" folder, not the title movie folder.

thanks for all the replies. What version of Nero seems to work the best. Should you use the classic as opposed to the express. I got a trail version with the drivers to my Sony DVD burner.

    mgb1921,
    i found the guide.

If you look in the signature (at the bottom)of the guy with nick "HERBMAN". There is a link to the guide (the 1st one).
    +click on that link.
    +find the big header "DVD-R"
+look for article "backup DVD-9 to DVD-R using DVD shrink

By the way, newest version of Nero is good. Demo still works fine.

tried Nero (demo) liked it and ordered it. What is the difference between express and classic? IT seems that express window pops up, then you have to click "burn" with express. Don't know how it works exactly, but managed to fumble my way through it and burn my first movie. Used and ISO file. Tried the "video-TS" saving, and couldn't get it from there. ISO seems to work just fine. Any thoughts/suggestions?

    mia33,
I have not tried to burn dvd video by image ISO which is made from dvd shrink. However, I think whenever you have ISO file, it doesnt matter you use express or classic. ISO image is still the same.
If you are about to burn from video_TS folder which was create by dvd shrink in "harddisc folder option", you should use "nero burning ROM" classic, and choose "DVD-video" to create new compilation as instruction in the guide.

I have just tried my last option test on dvd shrink. And supprisely, the result was exceptional good. Barely to see those blurr, no big pixels, no dots. It can NOT compare to 1clickDVDcopy but GOOD. I keep all the OPTION, MENUS, EXTRA identical to previous backup. From here, if we leave out those un-need subtances, the quality must be more better.

Think back all the settings which includes all hardwares:

P3 450Mhz, all in wonder 8500dv, window xp driver
the only different is the setting in "preferences" of
    dvd shrink.

+ In "preferences": SHOULD CHECK MARK to "Run analysis and backup....."
+ In "Preview": SHOULD CHOOSE "system default renderer" (I chose my software renderer since I have all in wonder hardware accelerate)
+ In "File I/O": SHOULD UNCHECK MARK "enable overlapped....."

Actually all these come as "default" when you install DVD shrink. So my conclusion is: YOU DONT HAVE TO MESS WITH THEM

Enjoy the freeeeee software :) good luck to all

Pete, I just noticed that on page 5 you say:

The Ritek RiDATA 04 is part of the - "I really shouldn't have purchased that." group.

I have been recommended Ritek Ridata on here.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/83347

Is there different types of Ridata or have I picked you up wrong.

[bold]lavabuild[/bold] I am in the U.K & I for one can vouch for the purple RiDisc (Ritek G04) X4 DVD-Rs.

If Pete spoke ill of them , then I'm sure it would have been due to the fact that they don't work well for his NEC1300a DVD Writer.
    That's all !

But you yourself have a Pioneer 107 , which will burn these discs lovely & without errors (as long as you dont mess up - lol)
