I was wondering if there was a way to set my anti virus program to run at startup instead of on log on. It gets annoying waiting for it to load up every time a user logs on.

    Windows XP Home
    AVG Anti virus free edition

You go to Start-Run-type in "msconfig" and then go to the "startup" tab. You should see avg under "startup item" on left hand side and then uncheck the box. This will keep AVG from starting up once you log on to computer.

Do you think it will effect it ability to protect my system? I really don't interact with it any way.

By doing this, you are keeping AVG from running when you turn on your computer. If you want AVG to be on and alert you of any virus, then open up AVG and wait a couple of seconds and then it should be running and protecting.

Are you saying that if I don't open the program after log on it won't be protecting me against viruses. Or that I just won't be notified.
