Using a flashcard with DSi- does it have to be R4?

I have a Nintendo DSi, and wanted to buy a flashcard to download games onto. I got a Sandisk SDHC and downloaded a game, but it isn't recognised when I put it in my DSi- it says there is no compatible game software? I've searched may forums and got much conflicting advice.

    So my question is this:
    * will my card work? is there an upgrade I can install to make it work?
    * If so, how do I do it?

    Help please!

You have bought a micro SD - NOT a flashcart

Look into AceKard 2i, M3iZero, EZ Flash Vi - and avoid anything that calls itself R4

    You still need a flashcart.

That is what makes the ROMs work.

A flashcart needs a microSD IN ADDITION to the one that is used with the DSi.

Do some more reading. You haven't quite "got it".
