heres my question guys, what exactly do i need to play games on my ps2 thru a hard drive?
i know how to backup my games with excellent results.
i also have a 80gb maxtor diamondmax plus 9 hard drive at my disposal.i dont really know what version my ps2 is,but its the big old type, with the fliptop lid on it.i realise you need hdd advance or usb extreme, but i dont know which one and how to use them.
    thanks in advance.

you need a network adapter to connect the harddisk to the ps2.

u need to buy USB Extreme / USB Advance. u can run a burnt copy if your set is chipped. the harddisk needs to be formatted by the usb advance software(if i remember correctly). the games need to be converted with the usb advance software and stored into the harddrive. i'll be getting a 3.5" enclosure soon so i'll be trying it myself too, with a 40gb maxtor.

Edit: You bought the right product. USB Extreme allows you to connect a USB HDD to the PS2. the HD Advance requires a network adaptor to boot the HDD. Apologies as its been a while since i read this up. I'll be getting my enclosure so i'll be using USB software.

the HD Loader is for fat ps2, which requires a network adaptor. The USB advance / extreme can be used on all ps2 as it uses the USB port. There is also a HD combo or HD connect or something, which is soldered direct on the ps2 SLIM mobo for the HDD connection.

Can you use USB Harddrive with PS2slim v14 and boot games of that HD? What kind of tools you need to use HD? Or any suggestions are welcomed, thank you.

I saw a tutorial, how to oprate with external HDD on PS2 v12 and higher. I can't find it anymore, but i try to rewrite it as much i remember.

    1. Download USBeXtreme from http://www.hdadvance.com/download/ (probably will find windows client mode more comfortable)
    2. Plug your external HDD to PC
    3. Format it with USBextreme (maybe need to format it first under windows to NTFS and then reformat it under USBeXtreme)
    4. Now you need to get HDAdvance cracked version (if you have original, then it's much easier), mount image file with Alcohol 120 or Daemon etc.
    5. Create new folder to HDD named SWAPMAGIC
    6. Copy HDAdvance mounted image to HDD with USBeXtreme under folder SWAPMAGIC (which you just created) and rename the *.ELF file to SWAPMAGIC.ELF
    7. Plug your HDD to PS2slim and insert Swap Magic disc into PS2slim
    8. Now when you boot it up it whould turn to HDAdvance on your external HDD.

Games have to be transfered from PC to HDD with USBeXtreme. You can start them later on under HDAdvance on PS2slim.

I hope it helps and is correct, bacause i can't remember the precise steps. Btw: all the games cannot be played from HD, then they just show black picture. And online playing is also impossible (not im impossible, but you might get banned).

    I found the guide. it's here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/189177
you can see more detailed guide on page 3, i think it was.

Anyway it works on idea that swapmagic has built-in special booting system, that boots SWAPMAGIC.ELF file from folder SWAPMAGIC on your HDD.

In my opinion it could just work when you boot up your own burned cd/dvd of HDAdvance, which you get off the internet, with Swap Magic. But it's much easier to boot everything up when you dont have to swap anything.

Let me know if you get it working, i'm waiting for my SwapMagic 3.6.
