I got this a couple of weeks ago.

Bumped up the resolution and got the P8600 as options.

This is my first laptop. The only burning software is what came with Vista. Can someone recommend some freeware that would work well with a laptop. Looking for a CD ripper/copier/DVD copier.

How do laptops in general perform for burning/ripping/copying? Would it be better using a desktop?

In addition to ddp's advice, I would also reccomend you get an external dvd burner, as laptop burners can be very finiky. Some on here have burned disks with their lapop for years with no problem, and others have had their drives go down months, weeks, or even days from purchase.
