hi folks I first want to compliment this forum and there moderators; a very useful and friendly source of info!! here is my question: I had read somewhere that if you trace a black magic marker around the thin edge of an unreadable cdr it may become usable, I thought it was a joke to make me feel foolish after i had done it; but i have found that every time i do this when nero refuses a disk it works! so the question is why the hell does this work???? i can't wrap my head around it THX
In all honesty I've never tried this method to get a cd-r that has CR errors (bad sectors). Another method I've used with great success is taking an unreadable cd-r and use CloneCD and use these settings to read the image to the hd. Read settings: 1)Regenerate data sectors enabled 2) Read sub-q channel data& audio at 1x ===================================================== Write settings: 1) Always close last session 2) Write RAO-DAO at 4x Shoey _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Afterdawn forum rules http://www.afterdawn.com/general/legal.cfm Mobo: MSI KT4VL-6712,CPU: AthlonXP Barton 2500+,Ram: 512 SD-DDR (PC-2700),nVidia GeForce FX5600(256MB DDR),Maxtor ATA\133 80 gig hd,WD 80 gig external USB 2.0 [/small]
Hmmm, I am intrigued.. that implies a CD-R that has already been written to. that implies it is a blank disk that is yet to be written, why else use Nero? So which is it? where exactly on the disk? How thick a line? Have Fun...
hi folks thanks for your replies from your answers, I see i was not clear: I mean that ocasionally when I try to burn a blank CDR nero will reject it as bad media or not see it at all, in that case i take a marker and on the thin edge (the outside edge)not the top or the face; completely cover it. after this th cd is recocnized, i have had it work on cds that were previously burnt as well, but the blanks always seem to work I still wonder why?? it makes no sense to me lol
Ah, That will be worth a try sometime, if I ever get an unreadable disk. I have put a note in my "to be investigated" file. Cheers. Have Fun...
Just noticed that I have been made up from junior member to member. I thought I would catch you up, but GODDAMMIT, you're a senior member now. I think I should also be senior too!! Ho hum, lots more posts to write, more ridiculous discussions to contrive!
Shoey Dr chips A pleasure to meet you!! pulsar you too however I don't have the slightest clue as to what you are refering to... so I must be mad as noone seems to have heard of this, but honestly it works, mebbe someday someone will find out and reply until that day THE MYSTERY CONTINUES...... and i will continue to ponder lol
With the price of cd media as it is, is it really worth bothering about? Dvdx rescue is a good program to recover damaged discs. It does have it's limitations though!
The point I was making was that you were not supposed to understand what I was on about. Drchips & I have a very special & understanding relationship! Screaming off at a tangent is my speciality!
very true but you miss the point WHY DOES IT WORK? and sometimes you need to burn only have a disk or two on hand that nero refuses to see then this is handy
Previous posts, of which there are numerous, stand as testimony to the bizzare way in which my brain functions. PS I would never accuse anybody of being "clueless", that would be terribly rude & show a great deal of ignorance on my part. We only aim to inform & entertain!
LOL pulsar OIC glad to meet you now do you know... WHY IT WORKS??? it is drivin me nuts searched every damn place I can think of am I a lone voice in the wilderness
No clue as to why this would work, I have discovered that burning dvds & cds is indeed a strange & often frustrating pastime. I just accept that somethings work & others not. I guess all those lines of coding do not suit all of the systems all of the time. This phenomena can be annoying but I have learnt that you can overcome most problems due to the incredibly diverse nature of PCs. This is what makes the challenge of burning!
I heard that a line made by black magic marker on the inside ring of the disk, was used to circumvent a certain protection on a securom type protected disk, by doing this wipes a prewritten instruction or information on the disk leaving it open to access. how true it is? I dont know. I do know that when I tried it it made the disk unusable, good luck.
