Hi, Im using an External Dvd Burner made by Pacific Digital, Every time I try to Burn it reads the Dvd fine then when it starts to Burn it gets to 7% and then I get an Error which says "Error Writing Dvd-Please check the Log File for more information" I also did the changes you suggest in another area ie msconfig etc and then I get an Error about a sector. Ive wasted alot of Dvd's and am having NO luck at all. Ive also Un-installed the Roxio software bundle that came with my burner. Im using DvdXCopy etc. Ive been using Dvd+R and wondered if that is what I need to be using or am I supposed to be using another type of Dvd.Someone told me to use Nero which I haven't had time to try yet but plan too.Can anyone Help me with this? Im new to this Forum. Thanks
Did you check the log file? What did it say? Maybe posting your log here would give people info to work with.
Yes I did check the Log File, at least I think I did. At any rate I made a diff folder so that the files will go were I can find them easier. Im tired of wasting Dvd's and getting no place. ANy other help out there?
Make sure that DMA is enabled for all your drives via this guide by alkohol: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 You might also want to consider reripping the movie with DVDFab Decrypter, then encode with DVD Shrink and burn with Imgburn. Don't burn over 4X as the USB connection may not be getting the information to you drive as fast as it is trying to burn, thus the breakdown in data transfer and resulting coaster. Get some RW discs also and use them until you get your problem sorted out.
I already have a Decryptor program, Im using Dvd43 and you said to use Dvd+RW I wasn't about that, Mine that im using are called HP Lightscribe Dvd+R but it says something about RW on the box so im not sure if thats the same thing or not. This all seems to be complicated more so then what I thought.
I checked my DMA's last night and they are set the right way. WHat is shrink and why do I need it? It seems like alot of extra stuff to clutter up the pc.
Ok im assuming this is the Log info below, there are 3 Txt documents in my log folder but there all the same info except for 2 of them. You do not have to worry about DMA on an external drive it does not apply. Do you have any other sw you can try besides Xcopy, this program is a little out of date and cannot handle newer protections. Try something else to see if it is the burner or the program.
DVDXCopy is not the one you want to use ..... no updates any more and is the dinosaur of the DVD software arena. Plus your firmware is wayyyyyyyy out of date! use the TU56 (you have TU53), and you can get it here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces good luck! before you do the firmware update read the manual and make sure you do the update correctly. If the manual does't have information on updating your firmware then the download of the TU56 should have step instructions on how to install. make sure you use Roxio Zapper to take out everything relating to Roxio before you use Nero, because they do have conficts with each other. get it here and run it: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml some good free programs to use are: DVDFab Decrypter to rip to the hard drive: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm DVDShrink to compress (transcoder): http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm some guides for you: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm or you can just get the easy way of doing your backups: AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 ..... free 21 day trial and on sale now with Afterdawn discount: http://www.slysoft.com/en/
Ok ive used the Roxio Zap and since running it it disabled my Dvd43, now my Dvd43 that runs in the background is saying something about a driver not being installed I guess I need to un-install that and re-install it again? Also I have 1ClickDvd Copier 4.2, Dvd Decryptor and Dvd43 on my Pc along with DvdXCopy Platinum. What do you suggest for these? Should I uninstall all of them and use the ones you suggested?
reading your earlier post, who did you buy it from? quote Build Date : Feb 6 2004 10:25:41 Current Date: Fri 6-9-2006 11:24:4 PM Windows Version: 5.1 DLL Versions: asyncflt.ax 3.20 bouducon.dll 1.3.5.103 Platinum.dll 1.0.0.0 Common.dll 1.0.0.0 platinum.exe NOT FOUND! Ok Ive Un-installed eveything including DvdXCopy etc. The only thng left on my Pc is the Dvd Decryptor. Can you please tell me what programs I need to install now in order to burn my Dvd's?
This is from IHOE's post I would add Imgburn to the list for burning... http://www.imgburn.com As for the firmware, IHOE has already done the work for us again...
Thanks for all your help... Ok I got the Firmware and from what I can ell it installed the right way. I want to be able to Burn my Dvd's directly to Dvd and NOT my HardDrive... Do the programs listed do that? By the way, I got the DvdXCopy from my sister, she burned her original for me to use and she's been using it for a long time with no issues/problems etc.
Burning on the fly is the least reliable and least recommended method of making backups. The programs that are listed above will rip the movie to your HDD for transcoding and burning.
@1Tizz.... I'm glad you updated your burner's firmware correctly and you'll notice a difference because it will accept more disks from all kinds of manufactures now. But, unfortuately, DVDXCopy is not updated anymore and [bold]WILL[/bold]have problems with newer DVDs. I still suggest a Newbie, like yourself, to download and install AnyDVD and CloneDVD for it's 21 day trial and see how easy you can back up [bold]All[/bold] your DVD and even the new ones. It's up to you..... stick with the dinosaur software of DVDXCopy or move on up to the newer and better software that does everything for you with DVDs and it's always updated for life when you buy it. Can't beat AnyDVD and CloneDVD for the newbie experience of DVD burning. I have other programs ..... but when all else fails...... AnyDVD and CloneDVD does the trick!
Thank you for your patience, I un-installed Dvdxcopy I have Dvd Decryptor,Dvd Shrink and Img Burn. Ive already used the Shrink so now im trying out Img Burn if that don't work then i'll buy the Software you suggest. The main issue for me at the moment is seeing if my Burner will Burn before I buy any Software. Thanks

Get some new discs, the ones you are using are pretty close to the bottom of the rubbish pile. I would suggest investing in some Verbatims or Maxell's (made in Japan).
